Channel 101 in Downtown Los Angeles: A TV Network By the People For the People

Every month at the Downtown Independent Theater Channel 101 hosts a series of free screenings showcasing submissions of short pilots.

Sort of like a T.V. network run by the people, for the people, the “genius” of this monthly screening cycle (term genius used loosely) is that best content from the previous month gets “picked up” to have more episodes ordered, which will be shown to audience members at the subsequent viewing. This process of letting the cream rise to the top ensures high quality shows will continue to air (while weeding out the bad), and thus making the experience of attending all the more enjoyable.

Still confused?

Here’s Channel 101 creators Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab, in their own words:

“…Channel 101 is a chance to sit in the worn-out chair of the fat network exec, drunk on the blood of lowly artists whose right to exist is given in exchange for their ability to nourish. If there are 10 shows in the screening and 7 of them are good, that means 2 good shows aren’t coming back and the power of life and death is in your hands. Base your decision on whatever you want. You run the network. You pick the programming. Then come back in a month and see the next episodes of the shows you picked- plus a healthy crop of new pilots.”
