Free
oshogatsu family festival 2017

Ring in the Year of the Rooster with free crafts, performances and cultural activities during The Japanese American National Museum’s annual Oshogatsu Family Festival happening on Sunday Jan. 8.

Get hypnotized with a demonstration of the ancient art of candy sculpting,  get a taste of lucky soba noodles, get to know a variety of chickens at the petting zoo, watch something called a mochitsuki aka rice pounding and much more.

Special to this year is the Time After Time Capsule which will be filled by artist Sebastian Masuda and you! Bring a cherished personal item to donate or a letter to your future self. Masuda will take the items to be assembled for a major display in Tokyo in 2020 and reopened in 2035.

The festival is open to all ages and free to the public.
