Gin (along with its herbaceous antecedent genever) has been delighting tongues for centuries, while inspiring the likes of Snoop Dogg (“Gin and Juice”), W.C. Fields, and a beloved ’90s band (the Gin Blossoms). The juniper-heavy liquor takes center stage in numerous cocktail classics, including the Negroni, the French 75, and the Singapore Sling.
On May 24, learn the history of the juniper-heavy liquor during a gin cocktail and food pairing dinner at Alcove in Los Feliz.
At Spirited Dinner – The History of Gin According to Cocktails, Joseph Brookes of the 86 Company (makers of Fords Gin, amongst others) will lead diners and cocktailians through a multi-course meal during which every course will be paired with a gin-based cocktail, including gin punch, a dry gin martini, the Prohibition-era The Bee’s Knees, beloved tiki bar staple the Singapore Sling, and more.
Alcove’s new executive chef Matt Sieger will be manning the kitchen. Among the dishes to be served: Dungeness crab with English cucumber and young ginger; local albacore poached in jasminee and served with wax beans and burnt citrus; and roasted duck breast with black pepper, violet mustard, and cherries. You can view the entire menu here.
This lively event will take place in the cottage behind Alcove. Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased via the link below. Cheers!
