LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes in Downtown Los Angeles will launch its 4th annual FREE Summer of Salsa concert series on Friday, May 11!
Come dance to the sounds of some of the city’s best salsa and Cuban bands one Friday evening each month through September. This year’s lineup includes the Echo Park Project, Latin Sol, La Verdad, The Arsenio Rodriguez Project, and Conjunto Costazul.
There will be a dance floor, along with food and bar service available for purchase. You may want to arrive early, as seating is limited.
Each show begins at 6 p.m. The 2018 Summer of Salsa lineup is as follows:
Friday, May 11: The Echo Park Project, created in 2006 by Carlo Lopez, a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn, brings together in-demand session musicians presenting a combination of original material and hot ’70s cover tunes.
Friday, June 8: Latin Sol is a ten-piece band creating a blend of salsa and Afro Cuban rhythms featuring full percussion, rhythm, horn, and vocal sections that, in combination, play with intensity and energy.
Friday, July 13: With just two years on the scene, La Verdad, a West Coast nine-piece salsa group, under the musical direction of Gabriel Gonzalez, is committed to the preservation and expression of Afro-Son.
Friday, August 10: The Arsenio Rodriguez Project pays homage to one of the most beloved and renowned figures of Cuban music history. An all-star ensemble presents the music written and arranged by Arsenio the way it was meant to be heard.
Friday, September 7: Closing out the Summer of Salsa is Conjunto Costazul, led by salsa scene veterans Freddie and Johnny Crespo, bringing the sounds of swing and salsa with booming horns and percussion.
