There’s a Big (and FREE) Fall Festival at the Original Farmers Market The Weekend of October 17-18

We don’t really have seasons here in California but let’s play pretend for one weekend!

Celebrate the Harvest with some good ole fashion fun at the Fall Festival, taking place at the Original Farmers Market.

Now in its 81st year, the Fall Festival is one of the longest-running events in Los Angeles. Festival goers get to enjoy events like the Artisan Alley, kids’ crafts, a petting zoo, a “no-hands” pie-eating contest and live music performances to name a few.

Running from October 17-18, 2015 the FREE festival will feature a variety of fun activities (see below for full schedule of events) and plenty of good eats from the iconic Farmer’s Market food vendors.

So grab your kids and head over to the Original Farmers Market for some wholesome fun and plenty of picture worthy moments.

Schedule of Events

Artisan Alley & Petting Zoo on Gilmore Lane

Happening: Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00pm

Gilmore Lane will transform into Artisan Alley, guest can watch skilled craftspeople demonstrating wool spinning, leather and pumpkin carving, basket weaving and flintknapping.

Meet George the Farrier and his horse at the horse corral, check out the horseshoeing show happening 1:00pm and 4:00pm.

Gilmore Lane will also feature the Great American Petting Zoo from 11:00am to 7:00pm, kids get to pet friendly farm animals, including sheep, goats, pigs and llamas.

Adjacent to the petting zoo is Adventure Play Land, where youngsters can build a scarecrow, milk a cow, rope a steer and romp in a corn box.

Pie-Eating Contest

Everyone’s favorite event at the Fall festival is the pie-eating contests taking place each day of the festival at 3:00pm. You can watch from the crowds or if you love pies, compete in this “no-hands” contest featuring Du-par’s pies.

Photo Contest

If competing in a pie eating contest isn’t your thing, maybe partake in their best fall-themed photo contest? All you need to do is tag your picture on Twitter or Instagram with #FarmersMarketLA. Winners receive a $50 Farmers Market gift certificate.

The Fall Festival will showcase country and western, swing, bluegrass, and banjo music throughout the weekend. This year’s lineup includes:
