$1 Drinks for National Repeal Day & other Tasty Tuesday News Bites

Happy Repeal Day Angelenos! Today marks the 84th anniversary of the squelching of the the 18th amendment. So how do we celebrate in Los Angeles? With $1 drinks across the city (well, at least a bunch of bars owned by the 1933 Group).

In other food news, a new Hello Kitty Mini Cafe will open in Victoria Gardens giving away lots of super cute freebies and Pie Hole expands into Long Beach giving away pies and coffee as well.

The weekend will bring some delicious events your way like The Extreme Beer Fest Los Angeles, Primal Kitchen’s grand opening party and The NoMad Holiday Spectacular happening at The Walker Inn.

Repeal Day Drink Specials (December 5)

The 1933 Group has made National Repeal Day drink specials an annual tradition, and this year is no different. $1 drinks (in a various forms at select times) will be available at each of nine Los Angeles establishments, including Thirsty Crow, Sassafras, La Cuevita and Highland Park Bowl drink up from 5 to 8 p.m. One drink at a time, while supplies last. Check out their Instagram post linking all the bars and their specials.

Oh, and here are a few other specials to keep in mind:

Brack Shop Tavern: Enjoy burlesque dancers, jazz music, and $5 Old Fashioned deals from 6 p.m. until midnight. Food specials include $6 deviled eggs, $10 shrimp cocktails, and $8 stuffed mushrooms.

Filifera: The rooftop bar and lounge located at the Hollywood Proper Residences, will be serving $5 Old Fashioned cocktails as well as $1 21st Amendment Lagers. Deals run 5 p.m. through 10 p.m.

Baran’s 2239: The South Bay bar will serve $5 Honest Abe Ciders from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Prank: DTLA bar is serving $7 Old Fashioned and $7 Manhattan from 2 p.m. to noon.

The Pie Hole Opens in Long Beach with Free Swag, Pie & Coffee

The Pie Hole will open a new Belmont Shore location in Long Beach this Saturday December 9 giving away merchandise, gift cards, free mini pies and coffee to the first 60 people in line. Doors open at 8 a.m. If you miss the 60 mark, you can order up some new pie flavors from the December menu, additions include: peppermint chocolate chip, pear cranberry double crust and a festive egg nog custard pie with gingersnap crust.

New Hello Kitty Cafe Debuts This Week

The Hello Kitty Mini Cafe will expanded into Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga this Friday December 8 providing guests with new seasonal treats, beverages and super adorable stocking stuffers. The grand opening will take place from Friday, December 8 through Sunday, December 10 with a complementary drink of choice and a small gift from the Hello Kitty Cafe for the first 50 customers each day. Hello Kitty Mini Cafe is located at the Victoria Garden Chaffey Town Square, 12505 N. Mainstreet, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739.

Food Events for this Week in L.A.

Tuesday December 5th, 2017

In anticipation of The NoMad opening in DTLA in January 2018, bar director Leo Robitschek, bar manager Dave Purcell and team will takeover the Walker Inn in Koreatown for The NoMad Holiday Spectacular. The holiday pop-up will offer a festive cocktail menu, featuring “Naughty” and “Nice” selections, candy cane piña colada or pumpkin-spiced Mai Tai anyone? Available every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night through Tuesday December 19, the NoMad Holiday Spectacular experience will also include a few seasonal surprises to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Rustic Canyon will host a special dinner event with Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski of Michelin-starred San Francisco eatery State Bird Provisions to celebrate the launch of their cookbook. For one night only, Brioza and Krasinski will prepare a menu of 12 to 15 dishes served family-style like Spicy yuba noodles with kimchi, crab & tomalley butter, “Ice cream” sandwiches and “World peace” peanut milk with muscovado. Tickets cost $125 a person and includes a signed copy of STATE BIRD PROVISIONS: A Cookbook.

Miracle on Santa Fe continues at Westbound now through December 31. The seasonal series will transform the craft cocktail bar into an over-the-top holiday extravaganza, complete with falling snow, specialty cocktails and a visit from Santa.

Every first and third Wednesday of the month, BEAR CITY brings free comedy and free pizza to Que Sera in Long Beach. FREE

Bottlefish celebrates their one year anniversary by offering $2 oysters and a complimentary half-bottle of champagne when diners order the grand raw bar platter from December 8-15. Bottlefish is also gifting half-bottles of brut with orders of their anniversary specialty dish of ROE caviar served with house-made chips, crème fraiche, chopped eggs and minced red onion.

The Extreme Beer Fest Los Angeles is coming to DTLA’s California Market Center this Saturday with creative beers both local and international.

Chef-driven culinary concept Primal Kitchen is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its first California location in Culver City. The event is open to the public and will include tastings of Primal Kitchen’s menu items, local vendor giveaways, raffle prizes and more. The first 50 attendees at the event will receive free gift bags.

Experience the food and culture of East Hollywood’s ethnic neighborhoods through a four hour foodie tour this Saturday.
