25 Awesome Things To Do in L.A. This Weekend [3-20-15 to 3-22-15]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every weekend that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This weekend includes a delicious Kansas City BBQ event at the Santa Anita Race Track, multiple cherry blossom festivals, Alton Brown at the Pantages, and CicLAvia making its way to The Valley. So grab some friends or go at it alone, but most importantly have fun and enjoy yourself!

Friday March 20th, 2015

1. Cinderella At The El Capitan

Cinderella has been killing it with the critics (84% on Rotten Tomatoes) and at the box office, and you can still catch a screening at The El Capitan featuring live action event with special guests, film props, a light show and more as you wait for the curtain to go up. For fans of Frozen, Disney will also be showing a short Frozen Fever for attendees. This is an event for fairy tale lovers and romantics alike. 2. Halftoberfest at Alpine Village

Can’t wait for October to roll around so you celebrate the Bavarian tradition of Oktoberfest? Well, they’re putting together a smaller scale version of an Oktoberfest with the same song, dance, food, and beer… only it’s in the middle of March! $8 at the door, and free to get in if you dress up in Bavarian costume.

3. A Morning Pep Rally With a Pro Skater

Come hang out at the Unique Space, drink some coffee, and listen to a talk by former professional skateboarder (and current owner of Pizzanista!) Salman Agah. Doors open at 730am, talk starts at 8am. Free to get in if you RSVP.

4. For Love & Lemons Warehouse Sale

The team over at the L.A. label claim this is the biggest For Love & Lemons sale in history. Cash and card accepted, happening Friday and Saturday with plenty of replenishments throughout both days!

5. “Sturtevant: Double Trouble” at MOCA

Go to MOCA this Friday to see the opening of a career retrospective of American artist Elaine Sturtevant (known by most simply as ‘Sturtevant’), who created a 50 year catalog of carefully inexact repetitions of some of the world’s most famous art works. The exhibition opens on the 20th and will run until July 27, 2015.

6. The Long Goodbye at Aero Theater

Raymond Chandler’s portrait of Los Angeles through the lens of detective Phillip Marlowe is captured perfectly in the 1973 Robert Altman film, which stars Elliott Gould as the iconic private eye. The screening will be hosted by the late director’s wife, Kathryn, and will begin at 7:30pm on Friday.

7. Best Barbecue, Horse Races & More at Santa Anita Park

Horse racing and barbeque make the perfect weekend! The Kansas City Barbeque Society-endorsed competition will be dishing out tasty samples for you to help select the Peoples Choice Awards! Goldstar has half price tickets so get em’ while its hot!

8. Cherry Blossom Festivals!

Celebrate traditional Japanese cultural through the spring bloom of the cherry blossoms. There are three different festivities happening in and around Los Angeles this weekend for you to choose from!

9. Alton Brown at Hollywood Pantages Theatre

Food personality and Iron Chef host Alton Brown brings his entertaining blend of stand up comedy, love of food science and a whole lot more to The Pantages. 10. Tweedy At The Ace Theatre 

Jeff Tweedy of Wilco formed a band with his 18 year-old son, Spencer together they are Tweedy. Their KCRW sponsored show will be held at the Ace Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles Expect Jeff to play songs from their new album, Sukiere as well as Wilco and Uncle Tupelo tunes.

11. Pasadena Confidential Tour With Crimebo the Clown

You may find some thorns in the city of roses this four-hour guided luxury coach tour is filled with lurid stories of old Pasadena. Find out about the famed Sphinx murder at Masonic Hall and even Eraserhead star Jack Nance’s strange end and beyond. We found half price tickets on Goldstar.

12. A Benefit for TIOH with Tenacious D plus special guest appearance Sasquatch

The greatest rock band ever Tenacious D will play a benefit show for TIOH at The Regent Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles. Sasquatch will be there and so will live act duo Ronna and Beverly!

13. XPLORE Los Angeles: Urban Adventure Race

Fun seekers we got something just for you XPLORE is a team based adventure race and this time they are coming to Los Angeles . Race around the city, solve clues and interact with locals to complete challenges at every turn! Build your team and have an city excursion this weekend.

14. Latin Food Fest Grande Tasting

17. CicLAvia

This Sunday starting at 9am CicLAvia, L.A.’s massive open streets initiative, makes its way to The Valley! We Like L.A.’s cycling czar Zachary Rynew profiled the CicLAvia organization and its history. 18. The Amazing Los Angeles Race II

Like the Santa Monica event we mentioned last week, this hybrid scavenger hunt / sightseeing tour is a brilliant way to spend your Sunday afternoon getting to know the city of angels. Starting at the Dave & Busters in Hollywood, participants form teams of two to eight people and make their way to different L.A. sites trying to solve puzzles and unlock the clues that will lead them to the next location.
