Dynasty Typewriter is a 196-seat theatre on the ground floor of the historic Hayworth Building, just a block or so west of MacArthur Park along Wilshire Blvd. Since a revamp in 2014, the theatre has been home to some of the best live programming in the city, from stand-up sets and live podcast tapings to panels and musical comedy variety shows. Basically, if it makes you laugh, they probably have it on the calendar. And while just about every show is ticketed, there is one semi-recurring series where you can get in for free.
Netflix is a Joke Radio (the SiriusXM channel that plays Netflix comedy specials) hosts a free recurring stand-up showcase, usually (but not always) on the second Tuesday, featuring a lineup of up-and-comers. There is no cost to RSVP for admission, but seating is first-come, first-served and not guarantee entry. Doors usually open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts an hour later.
