Lemon Poppy Kitchen -> Glassell Park’s Lemon Poppy Kitchen recently revamped their space, including the some tweaks to the patio for full-service dining. New items have been added to the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, and guests can stop in early evening to take advantage of happy hour (Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m.) where wines and beers are $2 off and low avb cocktails are $9. This is also the only time to get their fantastic Plachintas ($10) a type of Romanian flatbread stuffed with feta and fresh dill. Continue the meal with a myriad of shareable plates from the dinner menu like the Crispy Pork Belly squares topped with a dollop of guac and pickled jalapenos or Fire Roasted Eggplant Taquitos. Larger format mains such as the Chicken Schnitzel and Bone-in Pork Chop with summer succotash are also real winners.

Melanie Burger Launch -> On Wednesday, Melanie Wine Bar will launch Melanie Burger, a day time lunch program offering a menu of smash burgers and fries daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Delectable burger creations include The Juicy Durrty, two patties topped with hand cut fries and loaded with pepperjack cheese. Happening between 4 to 7 p.m. the Hawaiian-inspired restaurant’s Golden Hour Menu will be available with $10 cocktails including tropical slushies and bites such as Crispy Rock Shrimp and Spicy Tuna Rolls that range $6 to $10. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! If you want to make this Sunday a memorable one (and already have plans) then we’re happy to help you sort it out, from brunches and concerts to free admission at a few museums.

Here’s how we break it down below: One great idea where you can get there by Metro, three top picks to point you in the right direction, and six other quick ideas for those who just need lots of options. Whatever you decide on, hope you make it a good one!

Make Metro Part of Your Weekend

Every Wednesday we map out a guide to the best things to do for the weekend taking L.A. Metro. For this Sunday, we recommend checking out the 626 Night Market Mini, which returns to Downtown Santa Monica this Saturday and Sunday with a scaled-down version of their popular Asian-fusion food market. The open-air food event includes over two dozen vendors offering an array of dishes and an alcohol garden for attendees 21 years and older. The market is free to attend (though capacity is limited). Starts at 1 p.m. on both days. More info here.

Concerts in The Dome -> Mount Wilson Observatory launches the 2023 season of its classical and jazz concert series this Sunday, a special monthly event hosted inside the historic 100-inch telescope dome where the acoustics are said to be some of the finest in the world. The Lounge Art Ensemble will perform this Sunday and there will be two separately ticketed sets; one at 3 p.m. and the other at 5 p.m. An artists reception bridges the shows at 4 p.m. Tickets are $55. The series takes place once a month from May through October. More info here.

Sunday Funday at The Wallis – > The May edition of Sunday Funday at The Wallis features a kid-friendly performance by Mostly Kosher followed by a Vogue dance lesson from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Free to attend. Starts at 11 a.m. More info here.

Free Admission at UPAM -> The USC Pacific Asia Museum is offering free admission everyday in May to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month. In addition to UPAM’s courtyard and permanent collections, guests can peruse their newest exhibition Global Asias, which features contemporary works from over a dozen artists of Asian heritage. Plus, on Mother’s Day (May 14) the museum offers a free ikebana flower arranging workshop (RSVP required). Remember the museum is open on Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More info here.
