Hollywood’s Franklin & Company is launching a new weekly Movie Night. Every Tuesday at 9 p.m., the Franklin Village gastropub will play a movie over their TVs. To really get you in a relaxed, cinematic mood, a different specialty cocktail, themed to the film, will be offered for just $6 during each movie.
The Academy Awards are at the end of the month, so accordingly, February’s theme is “Best Picture Losers.” All four of these acclaimed films were nominated for Best Picture but lost in that category. You and your squad are bound to discuss amongst yourselves whether the loss was justified.
The schedule is as follows:
- February 7: Sunset Boulevard is Billy’s Wilder’s 1950 drama about a desperate failed screenwriter who gets entangled with Norma Desmond, a former Hollywood star who’s now a deranged recluse.
- February 14: Bonnie and Clyde. A bored waitress, Bonnie Parker, partners up, both romantically and criminally, with a violent con. Starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, Bonnie and Clyde was released in 1967.
- February 21: Taxi Driver. Martin Scorsese’s 1976 drama about a mentally ill Vietnam vet working as a taxi driver in New York City whose mind drives him to violence stars Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster.
- February 28: L.A. Confidential. This blazing neo-noir, set in 1950s Los Angeles, explores police corruption and Hollywood celebrity. You and your friends can debate whether it deserved to lose Best Picture to Titanic.
