Honor the dead at Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles during its Día de los Muertos ceremony on October 28, followed by eight days of viewing Dia de los Muertos altars.
On October 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., see the traditional Noche de Ofrenda ceremony honoring the dead and featuring prayer led by the local indigenous community. The event will feature performances by traditional dancers representing the Aztecan, Oaxacan and Michoacán traditions, as well as L.A.-based poets and musicians. See a beautiful altar created by master altar maker Ofelia Esparaza and the official unveiling of Grand Park’s Día de los Muertos altars and art installations.
Then, from October 29-November 5, you can come view 50 altars and art installations created by local artists and community groups honoring Día de los Muertos. This years theme is the four elements and how nature intersects with our lives. The altars will be on view from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
You may want to come at lunchtime, as the park will offer free tours from Monday October 30 through Saturday November 4. To join this 30-minute tour, meet at the Hill St. entrance of Grand Park (adjacent to the Metro station) at 12:15pm.
All these events are free. For more info, check the link below.
