The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena is celebrating 19th-century French artist Edgar Degas with a lively artistic event on March 24.
Visit galleries featuring the famed Impressionist’s sculptures (titled Taking Share: Degas as Sculptor) and will have staff on-hand to discuss and teach about Degas’ technique as a painter and printmaker. Attendees will also have a chance to refine their own artistic talent through various interactive workshops. The schedule of events includes:
- Pipe Cleaner Dancers (Kids): Create pipe cleaner and tissue paper art pieces inspired by Degas’s ballet dancers.
- Grid Drawing (All Ages): Practice the grid method while surrounded by 19th century drawings and prints.
- Sculpting (All Ages): Using modeling clay, wire and wine corks, mold your own sculpture from a live model.
There will be harp and cello performances throughout the venue, along with a special menu at the Garden Cafe.
The event is included with museum admission ($15 for adults and $12 for seniors). Admission is free for students (with ID) and everyone under the age of 18. Parking is limited at the museum, so consider taking public transportation.
