Opening Day: Kozyndan “The Golden State” at Gregorio Escalante Gallery

September 2, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

“Instant Bliss” by kozyndan

Want to attend a great new art opening? Then you’ll want to know that art duo kozyndan will present The Golden State, their biggest solo show to date at Gregorio Escalante Gallery in Chinatown with a FREE opening reception open to the public on September 2.

This two-story gallery will devote both floors to the new work and installations that make up The Golden State. The show pays homage to the culture of California via the pair’s whimsical, offbeat collaborations.

This body of work, which they consider both personal and political, reflects a conscious form of rebellion against the current political administration and its agenda. The works reflect the humanitarian values so important to Californians and Kozy’s homeland of Japan. Each painting is made of nihonga, a traditional Japanese style of paint made of natural pigments, crushed rock and powdered crystal.

While checking out the dozen new paintings on display in the main gallery, be sure not to miss the basement — it will be transformed into an installation featuring over 100 of cozy’s newest “bunny primitive” sculptures.

The show will continue during the gallery’s normal hours through October 8.
