2016 Sundance NEXT FEST at Ace Hotel Theatre

The creme de la creme of Park City’s Sundance Film Festival will make its way to Downtown Los Angeles for three days of film and music events showcasing some of the most talented new artists on the verge of breaking out.
Sundance NEXT FEST will present six Los Angeles premieres of independent films, as well as a showcase of comedy short films. Each screening is paired with a music act, live performance or a talk with an indie film icon.

August 12 (8 p.m.)
Festival kick off with the premiere of Lovesong and a performance by Shamir.
August 13 (noon)
Screening of Morris from America and a teen talent show with participants from Los Angeles youth arts organizations hosted by Craig Robinson.
August 13 (4 p.m.)
Screening of White Girl, followed by a conversation with director and screenwriter Elizabeth Wood and a special guest.
August 13 (8 p.m.)
Screening of Goat and a performance by Sunflower Bean.
August 14 (noon)
Downtown & Dirty Shorts, hosted by Nick Kroll showcasing some of the funniest short films from the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

August 14 (2 p.m.)
Short Film Master Class for filmmakers, a half-day event of panel discussions and Q&As with filmmakers and Sundance Institute Short Film Programmers. The event will conclude with a networking reception. Tickets are $75 and include access to Downtown & Dirty Shorts at noon.
August 14 (4 p.m.)
Screening of Iranian horror film Under the Shadow, followed by a conversation between director and screenwriter Babak Anvari and a special guest.
August 14 (8 p.m.)
Screening of The Greasy Strangler, accompanied by a live performance from a surprise music artist to be announced and the world premiere of Flying Lotus’ directorial debut, the short film Royal.
This year the festival also includes NEXT DOOR, a free outdoor entertainment venue situated next to the Theatre where guests can enjoy drinks, snacks and sponsored activities before or after screenings.
Also, just before NEXT FEST kicks off, NIGHT BEFORE NEXT, a celebration event on August 11, will benefit the Institute. Nate Parker (The Birth of a Nation) will receive the Institute’s Vanguard Award during cocktails and dinner, and the outdoor party afterwards will feature a live musical performance by White Sea, fronted by Morgan Kibby, formerly of M83. Tickets to the outdoor party start at $150 and include an Institute membership at some levels.
