Things To Do
MITHRA Mark Bradford -> Emerson Collective is hosting the Los Angeles debut of Mark Bradford’s “Mithra” (2008) at Los Angeles Historic Park. Mithra is a 70-foot-long sculpture commenting on the shared responsibilities to combat the threats of climate change. The sculpture is on now through July 11, 2022.
Hollywood Fringe -> Dozens of venues, including The Broadwater, The Hudson and Three Clubs, host a huge slate of comedy, ensemble theatre, dance and immersive performances during the the three-week run of the annual Hollywood Fringe Festival. Runs June 9-26. More info here.
Free Second Tuesdays -> Both the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and The Autry offer free admission every second Tuesday of the month.
Rufus Wainwright at The Ford -> Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright performs at The Ford this Tuesday, both as a solo artist and with pianist Jacob Mann and guitarist Brian Green. The special concert is in promotion of Wainwright’s latest release, Unfollow the Rules, and the artist will also sing music by Judy Garland to celebrate the Hollywood legend’s 100th birthday. Dress Codes at The Autry -> What do a pair of jeans say about culture? How about a fringed jacket or an Aloha shirt? The Autry’s latest exhibition, Dress Codes, puts a focus on iconic western style to weave together how these iconic clothing items came to shape social identity in the American west. The exhibition showcases more than 150 objects from The Autry’s archive of clothing and textiles. Exhibition included with regular museum admission ($14 for adults). Open Tuesday through Sunday. I|O Rooftop Movie Nights -> Every Wednesday for the month of June, I|O Rooftop at The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood will screen classic movies that shine a light on the LGBTQ+ community. Entry includes complimentary popcorn and cotton candy for each guest. This week they’ll show To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.
Lovett or Leave It -> On Wednesday, Crooked Media co-founder, and former Obama speechwriter, Jon Lovett is back at the The Dynasty Typewriter with another live edition of his podcast Lovett or Leave It. Get the skinny on the latest in the world of news and politics through as seen through Lovett’s acerbic perspective, and paired with panels discussing the latest issues. This week’s episode is a special PRIDE edition featuring special guests Kathy Griffin, Bob the Drag Queen, Tre’vell Anderson, Abby McEnnany, River Butcher, Sydnee Washington, and Solomon Georgio. Summer Kick Off in San Gabriel –> The City of San Gabriel will host a Surf’s Up Summer Kick Off block party this Thursday in the Mission District this Thursday. Expect beached-themed activities in a family-friendly street festival atmosphere, including a Beach Boys cover tribute band, food trucks, a beer garden, plus games and activities for kids. Runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.
Hecho Con Amor -> LA Plaza Cocina gets interactive this Thursday with a special cooking class led by Chef Gilberto Centina (Chichen Itza, Holbox). Chef Centina will teach guests how to butcher a whole fish and make a three-course meal that includes ceviche, fish tacos, and Pescado a la Veracruzano. Class costs $60 and runs about 2 hours. Life & Thyme Spirits of Los Angeles -> This month Life & Thyme, in collaboration with ROW DTLA, presents Spirits of Los Angeles, a series of talks with local chefs and bartenders focused on exploring the diverse spirits culture here in Los Angeles home. Learn about Brazil’s national cocktail the caipirinha. Sip on sake or take a deep dive into mezcal. The events take place every Thursday and are free to attend with an online registration. Bloomsday -> The Hammer celebrates author James Joyce and his novel Ulysses this Thursday with Bloomsday, a theatrical blend of staged readings and musical performances all centered around the author’s most iconic work. Free to attend with RSVP. More info here.
Cuties Nite Market -> On Thursday, head to Black-owned community greenhouse The Plant Chica in Jefferson Park for Cuties Nite Market. The evening includes goods from QTBIPOC vendors, tarot readings, food and live music.

Trans Pride LA -> This year, Trans Pride Los Angeles returns virtually and in-person with a dance party, timely discussions, a job fair and more, all from this Thursday to Saturday. More info here.
KTOWN Night Market -> Inspired by the lively night markets in Asia, KTOWN Night Market is a vibrant two-day street party with live music performances from local and international talent, plus a large selection of food and merchandise vendors over one single weekend. Don’t Tell Comedy Anniversary Shows -> This Friday and Saturday, Don’t Tell Comedy has special 5th anniversary shows lined up at at locations in Santa Monica, Venice, Playa Vista, Pasadena, and El Segundo. You won’t know which comics will be performing until they stage, but that’s all part of the surprise. Tickets are $20. More info here.
Outdoor Movies at The Skirball – The Skirball’s outdoor movie programming returns This Friday with a screening of Galaxy Quest. The film will be accompanied with a special pre-screening talk by Star Trek expert Scott Mantz, as well as access to the museum’s latest exhibits. Tickets cost $20 per person. More info here.
Jazz at LACMA -> This Friday at 6 p.m., the Los Angeles County Museum of Art brings the Bob Reynolds Quartet to Smidt Welcome Plaza as part of the ongoing Jazz at LACMA series, which continues on Friday evenings through November. Admission is free, however seating is limited and first come, first served. More info here.

GANCHIC x Steep Kimbap Workshop & Tea Ceremony -> Tickets are going fast for this Saturday’s GANCHIC kimbap workshop at Steep in Chinatown. Guests will learn to create the most aesthetic Quinoa Kimbap Box filled with flowers and then enjoy a Maojian Tea Ceremony by Steep. nomoo Plant-Fil-A Sandwich -> Vegan fast food spot nomoo | new american burgers is taking a crack at making a plant-based version of Chick-Fil-A’s signature fried chicken sandwich. Launching this Thursday, the Plant-Fil-A is made of non-GMO Chick’n, American Cheeze, butter lettuce, tomato and house pickles sandwiched between a buttered brioche bun.
Soft Shell Crab Season -> Soft-shell crab is currently in-season and here are a couple restaurants offering the summer delicacy:
- Broad Street Oyster Company has brought back their fan favorite Spicy Soft Shell Sando available exclusively at their Malibu location. The sandwich features fresh, deep fried Maryland soft shell crab, topped with slaw and a Fresno chile aioli sandwiched between brioche buns.
- Water Grill locations are featuring a Wild Maryland Soft-shell Crab in a brown butter soy ginger sauce served with a watermelon and cucumber salad.
