Sunset Yoga at Runway Playa Vista – FA > Every Monday in September, RUNWAY Playa Vista hosts Sunset Yoga with Livwell Playa, a free outdoor flow series held on the lawn turf. Led by instructors from the upcoming Livwell Playa yoga studio, each 50-minute practice is designed for all experience levels to unwind and reset at dusk. Attendees must bring their own yoga mats. Lucas Museum Opens – M > Exposition Park’s long awaited Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially opens to the public this Tuesday. The 300,000-square-foot space, designed by architect Ma Yansong, features more than 30+ themed galleries that explore narrative and visual storytelling through the lens of childhood, community, family, love, motherhood, play, school, sports, and more. And yes, there is some Star Wars themed stuff (including a small exhibit) but it’s far from the whole shebang. You can get a quick visual overview from this LAist sneak peek. As for tickets, they start at $25 for adults, and it looks like the soonest availability is September 29 according to our most recent check of the ticketing site. More info here.
Haruomi Hosono Yours Sincerely DJ Set at the JACCC – M TP > This Tuesday, the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center hosts a special DJ set and Q&A with Japanese musical pioneer Haruomi Hosono (Yellow Magic Orchestra, Happy End) at the James Irvine Japanese Garden. The evening celebrates his 23rd studio album, Yours Sincerely (Ghostly International), blending psych-folk and avant-pop soundscapes. The event is restricted to ages 21 and older. Tickets are $15. Pitch-A-Friend at LA Ale Works -> Pitch-A-Friend hops over to LA Ale Works in Hawthorne this Tuesday for another singles pitch night and casual mixer. Friends can sign up in advance to deliver short presentations showcasing their single friends in exchange for a complimentary drink. The presentations are followed by an open mixer for attendees to chat and socialize. Entry is free with online RSVP recommended. Starts at 7 p.m. More info here.
Beneath the Harvest Moon at the Skirball -> This Thursday, Skirball Cultural Center hosts Beneath the Harvest Moon, an outdoor community gathering led by ceremonialist Devorah Brous ahead of Sukkot. The full-moon celebration blends Jewish earth-based traditions and contemporary festival energy with interactive elemental stations, lulav bundle crafting, and a ceremonial Aztec dance performance by In Tianextli Tlacopan. The evening transitions into a live DJ set featuring beats by KCRW Music Director Ale Cohen. Tickets range from $10 to $20, with drinks and food available for purchase. The Other Art Fair -> Beginning this Thursday, The Other Art Fair is back at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica with a four-day event showcasing a curated selection of over 160 independent artists. Spy art for sale while enjoying live DJ sets, activations, installations, and a cash bar. Advance tickets are $60 for opening night (Thursday) are GA tix for Friday to Sunday run $25. Dodgers Singles Night -> Common Space Brewery hosts Dodgers Singles Night is back this Thursday, offering a themed social event for Los Angeles baseball fans looking to connect. The evening features icebreaker cards, name tags, and custom lineup cards designed to facilitate casual introductions. An optional speed dating session is available for an additional fee, which includes a participant’s first draft beer. General taproom admission is free, while speed dating registration costs $15. Reign of Terror Haunted House -> Beginning this Friday, the annual Reign of Terror Haunted House in Thousand Oaks is back this fall with 18 dates on the docket from September 25 through November 1. The award-winning walk-through attraction spanning 12 interconnected haunted areas across 145+ rooms. The updated layout introduces “The Hotel” as its 12th attraction alongside revamped sections like the Funhouse and the Bayou, complete with fresh special effects, new live scares, and a complimentary photo opportunity at the exit. Admission includes entry to all 12 attractions with free parking on site, and timed-entry ticketing requires guests to select a 30-minute arrival window. Tickets start at $44.99. More info here.
Hola México Film Festival -> Starting Friday, the Hola México Film Festival presents the 18th annual edition of its flagship event—the largest festival of contemporary Mexican cinema outside of Mexico—screening across key venues including The Montalbán Theatre. Program highlights include the opening night presentation of Loco México Mágico and a special concert documentary screening of Zoé’s Memorex + Rexsexex y Más, alongside showcase selections from the festival’s “Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today” professional development program. Festival passes and single-screening tickets vary in price. Bike-In Movie Night: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial – M FA > Ivy Station hosts a Bike-In Movie Night this Friday featuring an outdoor screening of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Attendees who ride their bikes can utilize a complimentary secure bike valet hosted by Walk ‘n Rollers and be entered into a drawing for an e-bike subscription. The event offers free popcorn, with movie candy and meals available for purchase from local Ivy Station eateries. Low beach chairs or lawn blankets are recommended. Florentine Steak Dinner Series at All’Antico Vinaio (September 25) -> All’Antico Vinaio’s Florence Underground dinner series continues at their Santa Monica location with another night centered around bistecca alla Fiorentina. For $130 per pair, the meal opens with cured meats, cheeses, and house-made schiacciata bread before the main event: a massively thick T-bone seasoned only with salt and olive oil, served slightly before medium-rare with classic sides family-style. Olive oil cake and crema close it out. Only 30 spots available. Reservations via Toast.
