The election is here, the rain is here, and over the weekend a few bears had a wholesome family outing at the Los Angeles Arboretum. All signs point to a bit of a wild week in the city of angels, but per usual we’re here to ground you in a lineup of fun to-dos.

Things To Do This Week
Lake Bell in Conversation at Dynasty Typewriter -> Writer-director-actor Lake Bell (In a World) comes to the Dynasty Typerwriter this Monday to discuss her new book, INSIDE VOICE: My Obsession with How We Sound. Bell will be joined by special guests including Tig Notaro, Rob Huebel + June Diane Raphael. Tickets are $30 to attend and get a download link to the audiobook. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several months, you probably know there’s a big election on Tuesday. Henry Taylor: B Side at MOCA -> MOCA Grand Ave latest exhibition offers a retrospective surveying the 30-year career of the L.A.-based Henry Taylor, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and installations. Access to the exhibition is include with general admission, which is free. MOCA Grand Ave. is open Tuesday to Sunday. Get more info here.
Free Second Tuesdays -> Both The Autry Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art offer free admission every second Tuesday of the month.
Bob Baker Marionette Theater: 60 Years of Joy & Wonder -> Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale has a brand new retrospective that traces the six decade history of the iconic Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and features close to 100 artifacts, including hand-crafted marionettes, original concept art, archival photographs, an animatronic band, and more. Forest Lawn Museum is free to visit Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Joy & Wonder remains on view through March 19, 2023. More info here.
Fowler Out Loud Series UCLA’s Fowler Museum hosts multi-disciplinary, student-led programming continues this Wednesday with a performance by the Medleys a cappella group. The free show starts at 6 p.m. Get more info here.
The Legacy of Cacao -> The newest exhibition at LA Plaza Cocina traces the origins of chocolate from its first reference by the Olmec civilization more than 2,000 years ago to present day through a series of precolonial objects and contemporary photographs. The Legacy of Cacao remains on view through April 30, 2023, and there will be an official opening reception (also free to attend) on December 3. LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes is free to visit Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. More info here.
Playspace (Clown Jam) -> Playspace is Elysian Theater’s free, weekly open-stage comedy session welcoming both solo and ensemble performers. If you have something creative and comedic, it’s the perfect format to experiment with something new. Runs 6 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday. Get more info here.
40 Watts from Nowhere -> Starting this Thursday, Angelenos can catch an immersive theatrical experience based on the memoir of Sue Carpenter, who operated a hugely popular Silver Lake-based pirate radio station from her apartment in the 1990s. The production runs at secret locations throughout Silver Lake from November 10 through December 16. Tickets are $70. More info here.
Ice Santa Monica -> *** UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, this Thursday’s opening event for Ice has been rescheduled to November 16 *** Downton Santa Monica’s Ice kicks off another season of holiday skating with the return of a 8,000-square-foot pop-up rink at the corner of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue. The opening celebration runs 6 to 10 p.m. and includes free admission and skating rental, plus DJ’d tunes other fun freebies for guests. Following the opening, Ice remains open daily through January 16, 2022. Skate rental and all-day admission runs $20 per person. Get more info here.
Celebrating Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers -> On Thursday, the GRAMMY Museum convenes panel discussion with Kendrick Lamar’s collaborators, including album producer Sounwave, Beach Noise, J Lbs., Bekon, Manny Marroquin, and DJ Dahi. Moderater Carl Chery leads the group as they chat about the making of Lamar’s latest album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. Tickets are $20. Event starts at 7 p.m. More info here.

Lightscape at The L.A. Arboretum -> Starting Friday, the L.A. Arboretum lights up the holiday season with a one-mile trail of installations and twinkling displays, taking place at the garden after-hours on select dates from November 11 through January 8. GA adult tickets range $37-$39, depending on the date selected for purchase. Get more info here.
Chocolate & Art Show -> On Friday Local artists and photographers showcase their work amidst an atmosphere of local vendors, face and body painting, live music, and free chocolate. Starts at 8 p.m. at The Vortex in DTLA. Tickets are $20. More info here.
Night Market at Ivy Station -> The Culver City Arts District Night Market at Ivy Station is a monthly event featuring over two dozen vendors and and plenty of local bites for purchase. Free to attend. Runs 5 to 10 p.m. this Friday. More info here.
PCH Movies & Moonlight -> Long Beach’s 2nd & PCH screens Disney’s Monster’s Inc this Friday as part of the, free PCH Movies & Moonlight. The event also includes pre-show entertainment and face-painting. for kids. Starts at 5 p.m. More info here.

Holiday Dinner Series at Heritage Farm -> Heritage hosts an intimate dinner series this month in the restaurant’s urban farm located in Long Beach. A zero-waste and Michelin Plate-honored restaurant, Heritage farm dinners are a special occasion for Chef Phil Pretty to showcase the seasonal organic produce from the farm alongside other hyper-local purveyors. This month’s menu offers a five-course tasting that includes a Local Mushroom Tartlet with Black Garlic, Heritage Egg and Winter Truffles, Wagyu Rib Cap paired with Grilled Leeks and much more. Tickets cost $160 per person and include a wine pairing. The holiday dinner series takes place Fridays and Saturdays for the next two weeks. Reservations can be made through phone or Opentable.
Buvette Pivots to Sparkling Wine -> Buvette has transformed into a bubble bar offering an expansive selection of sparkling, rosé, and Champagne. Guests who crave variety have the option to build a sparkling flight with the help of co-owner and sommelier Rebecca Phillips. The Sherman Oaks wine bar also updated their menu to pair perfectly with the drinks adding tinned fish and a charcuterie board to the mix.

PM Spirits Sherry Dinner at Otoño -> On Thursday November 10, Otoño hosts a seven-course tasting dinner with sherry pairings by PM Spirits and live Flamenco music. Chef Teresa Montaño has created an exclusive menu of Spanish bites like pintxos, charcoal grilled catalan red prawn and braised beef cheek stuffed in pasta. Tickets for the dinner cost $160 and can be purchased via Resy. This event will take place on Otoño’s heated patio and will be limited to 30 guests.
Steep After Dark Dinner Series in Chinatown -> Mandarin Plaza’s Steep hosts Steep After Dark (S.A.D.) every week Thursday through Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. The special food menu focuses on asian-inspired bar bites and tea-based cocktail creations. Shareable items include an Umami Snack Platter, Guacamole and Chips drizzled with chili oil to an excellent Truffle-Braised Pork Rice bowl.
