Just little a cooler this week than last, so maybe it’s time to take advantage as the dog days of summer roll on.

Maeving Mondays: SKY JAM – FA > Start your week by heading to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook for Maeving Mondays: SKY JAM at the top of the Culver City Stairs. The open sunset gathering invites musicians and non-musicians alike to hang out, bring instruments, blankets, and snacks, and take in views of the city. Admission is free, with a $10 suggested donation. Runs 6 p.m. to sunset. More info here.
Documentary Screenings at Heavy Manners -> This Monday, Heavy Manners Library hosts a film screening featuring three short music documentaries: Saint John Coltrane (2004), A Carol King doc called You’ve Got A Friend (2017) The Lonesome Crowded West (2013) which centers on the band Modest Mouse. 10 Years LA! at Spruth Magers – FA > This is the final week to catch Sprüth Magers Gallery’s 10 Years LA!, a collaborate exhibition celebrating the gallery’s decade in Los Angeles. Spanning the main gallery and the site of nearby former Sizzler, the exhibition highlights works, film, and video from artists including Barbara Kruger, Ed Ruscha, and John Baldessari. Admission is free. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last day to catch it will be August 15. More info here.
Sketch Party – FA > Sketch Party’s twice-monthly drawing/drinking meet-up comes to Benny Boy Brewing this Tuesday. They’ll hook you up with sketch paper, pens, pencils, and markers, then it’s up to you to create, mingle, hang out, and enjoy BB’s solid lineup of craft beers and ciders. All artistic levels welcome. Shakespeare in the Park – FA > The second half of the Independent Shakespeare Co.’s 2026 summer theater festival in Griffith Park continues this Wednesday to Sunday, as the ISC brings performances of A Comedy of Errors to the stage. JazzPOP 2026 at the Hammer – FA > This August, The Hammer Museum presents the 19th season of JazzPOP, a three-part concert series curated by bassist Lisa Mezzacappa showcasing West Coast creative jazz. The series continues this Thursday with a performance by the Malachi Whitson Quartet, led by drummer, composer, educator, and community builder Malachi Whitson. Sizzling Summer Nights at The Autry -> Every Thursday in August, The Autry museum hosts some of L.A.’s best salsa and Latin fusion bands with free salsa lessons, access to the museum galleries and a separate children’s dance floor. Admission cost $23 per person. More info here.
Ivy Station Night Market: Camp Ivy – M FA > Ivy Station Night Market is back this Friday with a Camp Ivy theme featuring summer market featuring artisan vendors, food trucks, lawn games, and camp activities like DIY friendship bracelets and portrait drawing. Los Angeles Ale Works serves craft beer and wine on the plaza alongside music by DJ Bennett. Admission and parking are free. Programming runs 5 to 10 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.
Summer of Salsa – M FA > LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes hosts the August edition of Summer of Salsa this Friday. Expect live music from Southern California salsa group Rush Hour Orquesta alongside sets from Super DJ Robby. The night opens with a free dance lesson led by Dancing 101 with Roberto, followed by live music, vendor pop-ups, and dancing under the stars. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets; food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is free with an advance RSVP recommended. Runs 6 to 11 p.m. More info here.
TAPE LA at Barnsdall Art Park – FA > All throughout August, TAPE LA takes over Barnsdall for Friday Art Nights. The free activations on Pine Grove and at the LAMAG gallery go full video with a tape swap, an interactive TV wall, Home Video Night, an Analog Petting Zoo, and more to be announced. Free to attend. The Music Center’s Dance DTLA – M FA -> The season of free evening dance parties wraps at The Music Center’s Jerry Moss Plaza this Friday. The 2026 lineup comes to a close with a night of Bollywood featuring instruction by Achinta S. McDaniel of Blue13 Dance, and music by DJ Sandeep Kumar and Dholnation. 626 Night Market -> 626 Night Market is back at Santa Anita Park this Friday to Sunday. The regional outdoor Asian food fest celebrating offers plenty of street eats, artisan goods, and live entertainment. Tickets are $8, and must be purchased online in advance, while parking is complimentary. Runs 3 to 11 p.m., each day. More info here.

SUSHISAMBA Does DineLA (August 14–28) -> SUSHISAMBA Los Angeles joins DineLA with a four-course sharing-style lunch that showcases the restaurant’s signature blend of Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian flavors. The meal opens with Brazilian cheese bread and honey truffle butter alongside Green Bean Tempura with black truffle aioli, before moving into Japanese A5 Kobe Gyoza, Seviche Classico, and Crispy Yellowtail Taquitos. Entrees span Sea Bass Anticuchos, Miso-Marinated Black Cod with a Peruvian twist, Pollo a la Brasa with aji amarillo aioli, and the Asivechado Roll, a Peruvian ceviche reimagined as a Japanese maki.
