Hiking is one of those things that you probably think you should be doing more of, but sometimes just planning the hike becomes it’s own little project (and no one likes adding more projects to their list).
Planning your route and knowing where you’re going really is half the battle, especially if you’re going by yourself and/or exploring unfamiliar territory. But our aim is to take away at least a couple of those barriers to entry.
With that in mind here’s a quick list of hikes and urban walks we know about coming up in November that are tailor-made to help you explore Los Angeles.
Free, guided, and, at least for this month, all pretty rigorous.
Follow the links provided below for more information.
[NOV 1] Ranger Ernie leads an advanced level 7-mile hike to Dante’s View this Sunday, November 1.
[NOV 8] The Over-Unders of the West Valley hosted by the Guide to the stairways of Los Angeles Facebook group.
[NOV 14] El Sereno Hill Walk + tour of mural alley hosted by the Guide to the stairways of Los Angeles Facebook group.
[NOV 15] The folks at design east of La Brea are hosting a Hollywood Sign Summit that “will bring together members of the local architecture, design, and planning community to tour some of the popular viewing areas as well as paths to the sign.” Walk-leaders will guide the group and special guest speakers, will meet the group along the way to highlight public access challenges and share ideas about improving the park space. Starts at 10:30am, and the meet-up point is the north end of the Griffith Observatory Parking lot. RVSP via Eventbrite to attend.
[NOV 21] The Great Los Angeles Walk, an annual day-long group trek exploring major streets of Los Angeles. For 2015 they’ll be tackling Olympic Blvd, from DTLA to the beach.

[NOV 24] Griffith Observatory’s monthly sunset walk lead by a park ranger. Each hike starts a short time before sunset(4:30pm) at the Observatory’s West Terrace and usually lasts about one hour.

If you know of any other public hikes or big group walking meet-ups we should know about, feel free to let us know via firstname.lastname@example.org so we can add them to the list.
