If astronomy is your bag, you’ve probably already bookmarked our tidbits on Griffith Observatory’s All Space Considered or the free Astronomy Lectures at The Huntington. Now, another idea to consider: Astronomy on Tap is a worldwide organization comprised of local satellite groups that facilitate astronomy-related presentations in bar (or bar-ish) settings given by some of the sharpest minds in the field. The Los Angeles chapter holds court at Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena (usually) one Monday per month. Here you will find a pair of scientific talks folded into a night of trivia and live tunes provided by the always engaging Jason Achilles. Also… beer!
For the May 12 event, you can catch talks by Carnegie Observatories Research Scientist Ana Bonaca with “How to Catch a Dark Matter Clump (Without Ever Seeing It),” and LIGO Laboratories Deputy Head of System Science and Engineering Gabriele Vajente discussing “Gravitational-Wave Astronomy: Listening to the Dark Side of the Universe.” Seating is first-come, first-served, and space (pun intended) fills up fast.
Who Might Enjoy This?
- You’re an armchair astronomer or astro physicist.
- You learn better when you’re drinking.

When: Normally held one Monday per month. Next up: May 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
