420 Dinner Tastings!

Celebrate this unofficial holiday with a 4/20 pairing dinner. Taking place in a private gallery featuring great views of Downtown Los Angeles, you’ll enjoy high-end cannabis tastings paired with chef-created dishes devised to complement the flavors and notes of each cannabis strain. A cannabis epicure will be on hand to impart a deeper understanding of each weedy course, and DJ Professor Moses & Hyim will spin all evening. There will also be live performances, a tea bar offering freshly brewed teas, and discovery stations that will help you to try new brands and products, like dabs, extracts, concentrates and edibles.

Lagunitas Brewing Company and Craft Hill in Monrovia are teaming up to celebrate 4/20 with a special five-course craft beer dinner for $50 a person. The brewery has a long-standing relationship with cannabis and was famous for its weekly 4/20 parties until its Director of Marketing was arrested for smoking weed at a Lagunitas St. Paddy’s Day party back in 2005. Lagunitas continues that tradition in a more brew-centric way now, with a yearly herbaceous special-edition release, The Waldos, unveiled each April 20.

There will also be a zoo walk-through with education and entertainment highlights, along with up-close animal encounters. On April 27 Malibu Wines will be the featured winery and the dinner will take place on the terraces of the L.A. Zoo’s Mahale Mountains.

Best thing we ate this week…

Southeast Asian concept Bone Kettle opened it’s doors in early 2017 to glowing reviews. The 36 hour bone broth made by Chef Erwin Tjahyadi’s is one of the most ordered dishes on the menu but the Steamed Oxtail Dumplings made with Oxtail tips, mushrooms and San Bai Sauce is a MUST try. Delicate and savory, the dumplings are an explosion of umami flavors reminiscent of Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Designed as an appetizer, I found it difficult to share this delicious find.
