Toast on a Whole Other Level

Brentwood steakhouse Baltaire recently launched a “Toast to Rosé,” brunch menu pairing rosé wine with five seasonally inspired toasts. Available on the weekends from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., till Sunday August 27, guests can dine on an array of sweet and savory toasts, paired with rosés from California, France, and Spain. Executive Chef Travis Strickland bakes the bread in-house daily using naturally fermented sourdough starters and ingredients are locally-sourced from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market. The toast and rosé pairing menu includes:

  • Bellwether Farm Ricotta, Murray Farm Blueberry and Meyer lemon Compote Toast with Jacobsen Cherrywood smoked honey, and mint, paired with Juvé & Camps Cava Rosé, Spain
  • Coke Farm Heirloom Eggplant “Caponata” Toast with Drake Glacier goat cheese, pine nuts, and basil, paired with Domaine des Brosses, Sancerre, France, 2015
  • Clear Springs Smoked Trout Toast with house pickled vegetables, gribiche, capers, and upland’s cress, paired with Ployez-Jacquemart Rosé Champagne, France
  • Coastal Organics Heirloom Tomato “Caprese” Toast with Di Stefano burrata, opal basil, pesto, and aged balsamic, paired with Vievité Cotes de Provence, France, 2016
  • Wood Grilled Kauai Prawns Toast with coconut curry, Thai basil, cilantro, and basil oil, paired with Sanford, Santa Rita Hills, California, 2015

Whole Foods 365 heads to Santa Monica

On August 7 Westsiders will get a chance to preview the latest 365 during their pre-opening party from 6 to 8 p.m. You’ll be able to check out the new store while enjoying food and drink samples from Asian Box, Groundwork, Coolhaus, Organic Girl, Santa Monica Brew Works, Siete Family Foods, and more. ** Unique Dinner Alert **

There’s a winemaker dinner happening at Cliff’s Edge on Monday August 7 with Chef Michael Bryant cooking a three course dinner in a Caja China roasting box on the patio of the beautifully decorated restaurant. The menu includes Grilled Kumiai Oysters with Sea Bean Yuzu Kosho Mignonette, Caja China Roasted Peach-glazed Pork Belly, Charred Kale Salad, Olives (served family style) and a Caja China Roasted Lamb Leg, Pot au Feu, Mushroom Consommé, Bone Marrow, torpedo onions and potatoes. The dinner costs $75 a person. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant at 323 666 6116.

Tuesday August 1st, 2017

Patina Group is launching Lobster & Rosé specials with French winery Domaine de Cala in select Los Angeles resturants from August 1-31. Ray’s & Stark Bar will be serving a Lobster Salad, Lobster Risotto and Wood-Fired Whole Lobster. Kendall’s Brasserie will be serving Lobster Linguini and a 1.5 lbs. Maine lobster. Café Pinot will serve Lobster Beignet, Lobster Mac and Cheese and a Lobster Dip.

Spend an evening poolside and beneath the stars enjoying dinner, cocktails and a classic film as Mr. C’s Poolside Cinema returns with a screening of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Among the food offerings are the MrC Club Sandwich with fried egg, Pizza MrC with burrata and Prosciutto crudo di Parma, and MrC Avocado Salsa with toasted pizza crisps. You can also enjoy some caprese-style popcorn, candy, mini bottles of Moët & Chandon Champagne, or, if you prefer beer, Peroni Nastro Azzurro on tap.

Todo Verde will host a Plant Based Mexican Feast in celebration of their two year anniversary. Join chef Jocelyn Ramirez at Crafted Kitchen in DTLA for live music, live art, unlimited bites from the vegan taco bar, Mexican street corn, vegan dessert, boozy agua frescas and more. Tickets cost $42 a person.

E.P. & L.P. presents ‘Melrose Rooftop Cinema’ in West Hollywood featuring sweeping city views, modern Asian cuisine and an outdoor movie experience every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening through August 30. The series continues this week with Jurassic Park. General Admission tickets cost $15 and VIP seating is $25. There is a dining option before the movie at the Aussie-Fijian restaurant, it’s called the ‘Express Menu’ featuring three courses for an additional $34 featuring Executive Chef Louis Tikaram’s new dishes inspired by his recent travels to Fiji, Vietnam, and Australia.

Thursday August 3rd, 2017

Head to Umami Burger’s new Grove location and take a bite into the buzzed-about Impossible Burger, the first plant-based, no meat patty that smells, taste, cooks and even “bleeds” like real beef (so they say). Umami’s take on the burger consists of two patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, miso-mustard, house spread, dill pickles, lettuce, and tomato. If that’s not your thing try the Misoyaki Butterfish Burger with tempura butterfish, soy-soaked pepper relish, pickled carrot and daikon, daikon sprouts and sesame aioli, exclusive to The Grove location. Tack on a boozy milkshake to beat the heat.

Friday August 4th, 2017

Salt & Straw West Hollywood will be handing out free scoops all day this Friday as part of the start of their late night happy hour (everyday from 9 to 11 p.m. through) AND the launch of Live Music Friday’s, which will take place weekly on Fridays from 8 to 10 p.m. The free scoop offer (all day this Friday only) is for one regular scoop of any flavor but if you going during happy hour you can upgrade to a waffle cone… also for free! Brew at the Zoo comes to the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens this Friday for an evening of beer tasting from local craft and microbreweries. Sip suds while you enjoy live music, pop-up zoo keeper talks, and close-up animal encounters. Check for discount tickets before making your purchase.

Sip wine perched on a iconic L.A. hill that’s also home to an architectural gem at The Barnsdall Art Park’s annual Wine Tasting Nights. Now in its ninth year, the series feature tastings of boutique artisanal wines, along with food trucks, amazing food pop-ups and this Friday includes music from KCRW DJ Marion Hodges.

Catch a flick on the rooftop of the Ritz-Carlton in Downtown Los Angeles during Summer Supper + Show Series presented by WP24 by Wolfgang Puck. The series continues with a screening of Pitch Perfect on August 4 and 5. The experience begins with a two-course prix-fixe dinner at modern Chinese eatery WP24, then a move to the rooftop deck to take in a movie from a select reserve seat while savoring cinema snacks such as housemade potato chips, candied Marcona almonds, crispy breadsticks with prosciutto, and caramel corn. Tickets for this supper-and-a-show experience are $85. If you prefer to just watch the movie while enjoying the aforementioned Puck-created concessions, reserve a seat with snacks for just $25.

Saturday August 5th, 2017

The 5th annual Avocado Fest heads to Angel City Brewery in Downtown L.A. on August 5 and 6 for the ultimate celebration of  the most popular green fruit in LA. The fest will feature avocado-themed contests, live mural painting, a crowd-participation mural, delicious food, live music an outdoor beer garden and more. Additionally, there will be a special release of Avocado Ale right after its canning on August 4. Admission to the event is free; food and drink are available for purchase. Part of the proceeds will benefit Art Share-LA and Ron Finley Project.

Celebrate National Oyster Day at Redondo Beach’s long standing fish market and restaurant Captain Kidd’s. They’ll be offering $1 oysters all day until they run out. Guest can choose to have then with lemon and hot sauce or fried.

The 5th annual Hollywood Beer and Music Festival if a celebration of craft beer and live music wrapped into one day. Guests will have access to unlimited samples from over 60 craft beers, three stages of live entertainment and a food truck pavilion. Avalon Hollywood will also host three beer tasting stations and a complimentary After Party on the Bardot Rooftop with one hour of complimentary vodka cocktails and a performance by DJ/drum duo Bass Punks. General Admission tickets are $35, while VIP tickets are $50 (which includes early admission and access to VIP beers).

The BBQ and Craft Brews Festival comes to Pershing Square in Downtown L.A. on August 5 and 6. The two-day festival will serve beer from all seven Downtown L.A. breweries, along with tastings of the best BBQ in SoCal. This is an all-ages event with no cover charge, all you need to do is pay for your beer and food!

Dine LBC is Long Beach’s own city wide restaurant taking place August 5 through 13. Long Beach houses a selection of upscale, casual and mom-and-pop style eateries serving diverse cuisines now you can try them all at a discounted rate! Each participating restaurant will offer a three-course menu priced at $15, $25, $35, $45, $55 or $65, either per participant with wine-pairing options at fine dining locations, or dinner for two priced at $25, $35, $45, $55 or $65, where participants share an appetizer, each enjoy their own entree, then share a dessert at more casual restaurants.
