21 Totally Fun Things to Do This Week in L.A. [2-23-15 to 2-27-15]

Every week in Los Angeles there’s tons of great things to do (even before the weekend gets started) that we think you ought to have on your radar. With that in mind, we put together a list every Monday morning to keep you in the know about what’s happening in the city you love.

This week includes a secret comedy show, vintage clothing sales, a special happy hour with We Like L.A., trivia with the L.A. Derby Dolls, and a laugh-out-loud parody show of the entire Harry Potter series (and a whole lot more!).

Monday, February 23rd, 2015

1. The Secret Show At The Blind Barber

On every last Monday of the month there’s a free comedy show held inside a Culver City speakeasy that resides on the other side of a working barbershop. It’s called the Blind Barber Secret Show and you need to be on a guest list to get in, but fortunately it’s as simple as emailing the organizers via email (check link for more info).

2. Franklin Canyon Little Tykes Hike

Take in the great outdoors with your little one for one hour you both will enjoy a story time and a nature walk shortly after.

3. California Modernist: Solo Exhibition Chris Turnham & Loris Lora 

California has had a rich history of modernist architecture from the Griffith Observatory to Hollyhock House and of course the Eames House. Local artists Chris Turnham and Loris Lora have captured them through modernist style illustrations now showing till March 1st at Nucleus Gallery. 

4. The Way We Wore Semi Annual Sale

Love vintage? Me too! For the rest of the week the store is marking down items from their first floor starting at 50% can’t beat that!

5. We Like L.A. Happy Hour Event At Cervateca

We want to meet the folks who run We Like L.A.? Please join us for a very special We Like L.A. Happy Hour Event taking place at Cerveteca DTLA this Tuesday from 4pm-7pm. Enjoy beer and wine specials, delicious food ($1 oysters, mmmmm…), special raffle giveaways and most importantly a chance to meet and connect with your Los Angeles community!

6. L.A. Derby Dolls Trivia Night

Did somesome say pub trivia? The L.A. Derby Dolls will host a trivia night at Golden Road Brewing. Come and show off your trivia skills and throw back a couple beers with your favorite Derby Doll.

7. MOCA Pacific Design Center Presents Bernhard Willhelm

This is the first American exhibition of German designer Bernhard Willhelm and Jutta Kraus. Created just for MOCA this site specific work consist of installations and sculptures that feature Willhelm’s Fall 2015/16 collection. The exhibition runs through May 7th and is free.

8. Dame Edna Bids Farewell

We mentioned it last week, but it’s worth mentioning again. Topping off her 50 years in show business Dame Edna is ready to dazzle audiences one last time in this side splitting finale. Join the neon pink haired treasure for one night because she will be missed once the show is over! If you’re interested find discounted tickets here.

9. The Working Women’s Club: Work Party

From 11am-5pm at The Ace Hotel Upstairs The Working Women’s Club will be hosting a all day gathering where ladies can come with their laptops, notebooks, sketch pads etc. and enjoy some good vibes, network, collaborate and check in with one another.

10. Get An Education In Chocolate With A Tasting! 

Learn about the art of chocolate making and the rich history of cacao from owner Patricia Tsai and her partner Alex Conn from the Culver City bean-to-bar chocolate cafe, ChocoVico. The event takes place this Wednesday at 7pm at the Ocean Park Library Branch. You can register here.

11. LA Mart/The Reef Free For All Wednesday

Located on Broadway in Down Town Los Angeles, the LA Mart hosts a event every last Wednesday of the month for the public called All Access Wednesdays. Checkout the events page to get the low down on additional monthly public sample sales.

12. Potted Potter A Harry Potter Parody

7 books in 70 minutes?! Yes it can be done and funny too! Olivier Award-nominated Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience has played to sold out audiences around the world and will be in Los Angeles for a limited time. 13. Free Screening of Airplane! With Mayor Garcetti 

Zocalo Public Square and KCRW asked Mayor Garcetti to choose a favorite movie to screen and he selected… Airplane! On Thursday The Million Dollar Theater in downtown L.A.  will be hosting this free screeningwhich will be followed with a q&a after the film with the mayor AND Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker–the trio who directed and wrote Airplane!

14. Boxed Seats, Craft Beer, Food And More At Santa Anita Park

Experience the races in true style by taking advantage of the Farriers Package at Santa Anita race tracks. The package includes food, beer, a gift to take home and admission to the Club House.

15. Free Introductory Mat Pilates Class

Whole Foods in Pasadena will have Pilates Pasadena present a free class. New comers are welcome so if you were ever curious about pilates this is the perfect chance to try it out for free!

16. The Toledo Show

Jazz, cabaret and one hell of a story unfolds here at The Toledo Show where the audience will get a glimpse of the seedy side of the city of angels and its fallen souls. The tickets are going fast so get ’em quick!

17. Provocations: The Architecture and Design of Heatherwick Studio

The Hammer is now exhibiting British designer Thomas Heatherwick’s inventive design concepts ranging from installations, to fashion to architecture. Admission to Provocation’s is free.

18. The Giving Tree

This play inspired by Shel Silverstein’s classic story is the perfect evening spent with your kid’s. Playing at the Los Angeles Children’s Theater the story follows a boy from young age to old. Get more information and discounted tickets to The Giving Tree via Goldstar.

19. California Market Center Showroom Sample Sale Event

Open to the public once a month the California Market Center hosts a showroom sample sale event where 13 floors of participating showrooms open their doors from 9am-3pm to savvy patrons.

20. Laugh Your Ass Off At The Hit Comedy Mash Up: Pulp Fiction Meets Shakespeare 

Set in Elizabethan England a pair of hit men go on an adventure…very much like a certain movie that made Quentin Tarantino pretty damn famous. This much anticipate revival has brought the original cast members back and will run for a limited time. Get half price tickets to the event via Goldstar.

21. CouchTrippin’ 2015 At Mack Sennet Studio

Party with King Tuff, enjoy beer, live art and musical acts all for a good cause. The event is free to get on the guest list so sign up now before the event fills up! Proceeds from sales at the event go to the O+ Festival, which is dedicated to the exchange of health and wellness services for works of art and musical performances.
