Astronomy on Tap Los Angeles: Black Holes & Radio Astronomy – M FA > Astronomy on Tap returns on Monday with a pair of scientific talks (helped along by trivia, live music, and beer) at Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. For the January event, Stanford postdoctoral fellow Jesse Han discusses his recent breakthrough discovery of the supermassive black hole in our closest galactic neighbor with a talk entitled: “Our Neighboring Supermassive Black Hole and How to Find It.” Also lined up, Carnegie Observatories postdoctoral fellow Allison Matthews talks about the seminal figure Grote Reber with a talk entitled: “I Am Grote: How One Man Changed Radio Astronomy Forever.” Event starts at 7:30 p.m. Free to attend, but seating is first-come, first-served. Morton Feldman: Centennial Marathon – FA > Immerse yourself in the “glacial stillness” of mid-century minimalism as Piano Spheres celebrates the 100th birthday of composer Morton Feldman with a massive two-day musical marathon. Day one two continues this Monday at The Brick on Western Ave. The program features a six-hour lineup of Feldman’s famously long and ethereal works, including the haunting Piano and String Quartet. Performed by world-class specialists like Gloria Cheng and the Eclipse Quartet, the music is designed to be a meditative experience where time seems to stretch and suspend. Yoga and Herbs in the Park – FA > Wind down this Tuesday evening with a free community gathering focused on healing and herbalism at Pan Pacific Park. Starting at 6 p.m., the three-hour session blends physical movement with spiritual wellness, featuring a flow of yoga, breathwork, and a relaxing soundbath. You’ll also get to enjoy herbal tea and a community drum circle under the stars. Hosted by Celandine Seeds, the event is designed as a “come and go” space for all ages to connect with nature and neighbors. Writers Bloc: Jacob Soboroff -> Award-winning journalist Jacob Soboroff will be in conversation this Tuesday at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. The MSNBC correspondent will discuss his new book, Firestorm: The Great Los Angeles Fires and America’s New Age of Disaster, alongside National Geographic’s Mariana van Zeller. Having grown up in the Pacific Palisades neighborhoods that were hit hardest, Soboroff offers a deeply personal look at the tragedy and the climate science behind it. Sketch Party – FA > Sketch Party’s twice-monthly drawing/drinking meet-up comes to Benny Boy Brewing this Tuesday. Drive-In movie on the Santa Monica Pier – FA TP > ust off your leather jackets for the Santa Monica Pier’s first-ever drive-in movie night this Thursday. To celebrate Locals’ Night, the Pier transforms into a 1950s cinematic playground featuring a sunset screening of Grease at 6:30 p.m. You can drive your own “hot rod” directly onto the Pier or snag a spot in the walk-in section with your own blankets and chairs. Expect live a cappella sets from Santa Monica High students, a ’50s costume contest, and free popcorn for the first 200 guests. Wolfgang Tillmans at Regen Projects – FA > Regen Projects unveils Keep Movin’, Wolfgang Tillmans’s ninth solo exhibition with the gallery and a sweeping look at the artist’s ever-evolving practice. Fresh off major institutional shows across Europe and inclusion in the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, Tillmans brings new photographs, videos, sculptural works, and a reimagined Truth Study Center to LA. The exhibition explores themes of interconnectedness across people, materials, histories, and images. All Space Considered – FA > On Thursday, join the curatorial staff at the Griffith Observatory for their monthly discussion on the latest phenomena and news in the world of astronomy during this evening presentation at the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater. Rob Reiner Movie Night at Dynasty Typewriter – M > Celebrate the legacy of the late Rob Reiner with a special screening of his beloved classic The Princess Bride at Dynasty Typewriter this Friday. The night features a live introduction by film critic Amy Nicholson (LA Times, Unspooled) to contextualize Reiner’s massive impact on cinema. It’s a “conceivable” way to enjoy a masterpiece on the big screen while supporting the Everychild Foundation, which honors Reiner’s lifelong advocacy for early childhood education. Tickets are $20.
