Astronomy on Tap Los Angeles – M FA > Astronomy on Tap returns on Monday with a pair of scientific talks (helped along by trivia, live music, and beer) at Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. For the Jube event, catch talks by a pair of PhDs from Caltech. Dr. Sarah Habib will discuss “How Computers Smash Black Holes Together” while Dr. Yoonsoo Kim offers a talk called “Einstein’s Curve Ball.” Event starts at 7:30 p.m. Free to attend, but seating is first-come, first-served. Don’t Stop I’m About To Jazz -> Top comedians from the L.A. standup scene take to the stage at Dynasty Typewriter on Monday, performing their sets with live piano accompaniment. The lineup includes Reggie Watts, Riki Lindhome, Todd Glass, Charlene Kaye, and Rick Glassman. Tickets are $25. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. More info here.
Moonlight Movies on the Beach – FA > Long Beach’s signature beachside summer cinema series continues this this Tuesday with a screening of Dirty Dancing at Granada Beach. Movie starts around sunset (8 to 8:30 p.m.). Free to attend, and parking is free after 6 p.m., though spots are limited. More info here.
Heightened Scrutiny at The Hammer – FA > On Tuesday, The Hammer will screen the West Coast premier of the new documentary Heightened Scrutiny which follows the battle against anti-trans laws through the story of Chase Strangio, an ACLU attorney and the first out trans person to argue before the Supreme Court. Following the film, director Sam Feder will be on hand for a Q&A along with producer Amy Scholder, and journalist, critic, editor, and podcaster Tre’vell Anderson. Alliance of Black Orchestral Percussionists in L.A. – FA TP > Starting this Tuesday, the Alliance of Black Orchestral Percussionists is hosting a special week (June 24-28) of events in Los Angeles, including multiple orchestral masterclasses and family drumming workshops, all free and all taking place at Beckmen YOLA Center in Inglewood. It will all be capped by a free concert this Saturday featuring ABOP’s Protégés followed by the ICYOLA. Register at Eventbrite to reserve a spot. Check ABOP’s website for more info.
Making Space Workshop at Oxy Arts – FA > Highland Park’s Oxy Arts gallery has planned a pair of art-making workshops inspired by their current exhibition, Waning Crescent: a meztli projects group show, curated by metzli projects. The first of the free workshops takes place this Thursday, where participants will learn how to create sustainable art by turning discarded ceramic tiles into painting surfaces. One Night in the Valley – TP > This Friday, the Valley Relics Museum is hosting a comedy benefit for those those impacted of California wildfires. The One Night in the Valley standup benefit includes a sterling lineup of local faves, including like Dana Gould, Aparna Nancherla, and Chris Estrada. There will also be a complimentary open bar and treats from Leonardoughs, and net proceeds from the evening will go to the Eaton Canyon Fire Relief Fund through the Pasadena Community Foundation. 21+ only. Dance DTLA – FA > Free evening dance parties return to The Music Center’s Jerry Moss Plaza every Friday night through August 16. At Dance DTLA, instructors will be on hand to teach guests easy-to-follow steps, allowing everyone to get into the groove right from the jump. Next up on the 2025 schedule is an evening of Afrobeats this week, led by instructor Kara Jenelle. Runs 7 to 11 p.m. Free to attend, as always. More info here.
Movie Night at Ivy Station – FA > Culver City’s Ivy Station is hosting a summer movie night on the lawn this Friday with a showing of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off beginning at 8:30 p.m. Blankets and low-back chairs are fine, but remember seating is first-come, first-served. Grease Sing-A-Long at The Bowl -> Danny, Sandy, and the gang take over the Hollywood Bowl this Friday as Grease plays with the lyrics shown on the screen, and the audience joining in the vocal fun. Movie starts at 8 p.m. Tickets available as low as $18. More info here.

Flavors from Afar Launches New Lunch Menu with One-Day Celebration -> Flavors from Afar in Hollywood debuts a new weekday lunch menu crafted by Top Chef alum Jamie Lauren, and they’re celebrating with a special launch event on Wednesday, June 25. Stop by starting at 11 a.m. for live music presented in partnership with Levitt Pavilion and enjoy globally inspired dishes like Berbere-dusted fries, sambusas, Indian-spiced lamb tartine, sambich, and seared halloumi salad. Proceeds from the menu support refugee-led programming at the Tiyya Foundation. The new lunch menu is available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Yeastie Boys Bagels Manhattan Beach Grand Opening -> Yeastie Boys rolls into Manhattan Beach this Friday with the debut of their eighth truck, parked at 1300 Highland Ave. Starting at 8 a.m. (until sold out), they’re giving away free hand-rolled New York style bagels to celebrate. Signature sandwiches like The Mishka (everything bagel with roasted bell pepper, tomato, sprouts, and schmear), Lox Deluxe (smoked salmon, capers, scallion schmear), and The Diss Track (pit-smoked pastrami, scrambled egg, melted American cheese, and schmutz sauce on an egg everything bagel) will also be on deck.
Last Week to Catch Jikoni at Citizen Public Market -> Don’t miss your final chance to experience Jikoni, the AfriCali pop-up from celebrated cookbook author Kiano Moju, at Citizen Public Market in Culver City. Now through June 29, Moju brings her cookbook’s bold, African-meets-California flavors to life with dishes like Swahili short rib biryani, shrimp jollof arancini, lamb suya, maize and greens, and the fan-favorite karkara pie. Jikoni is open Wednesday through Sunday, 12 to 9 p.m., through the end of the weekend.
