Astronomy on Tap – M FA > Astronomy on Tap returns on Monday with a pair of scientific talks (helped along by trivia, live music, and beer) at Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. For the August event, catch talks on. Exploring Saturn’s Moon Titan with the Dragonfly Mission” by NASA JPL scientist Morgan Cable, followed by “Furtive Nudges and Gravity Bombs: Yet Another Talk on Exploding Stars” presented by Carnegie Observatories Postdoctoral Fellow David Vartanyan. Moonlight Movies on the Beach – FA > Long Beach’s signature beachside summer cinema series continues this this Tuesday with a Grease sing-along at Granada Beach. Movie starts around sunset (8 to 8:30 p.m.). Free to attend, and parking is free after 6 p.m., though spots are limited. More info here.
City of San Gabriel 31st annual National Night Out – FA > This Tuesday, the 31st annual National Night Out turns the historic Mission District into a block party with live music, food and games all in an effort to promote public safety. Runs 5 to 8 p.m. More info here.
RUNWAY Sunset Yoga – FA > On Tuesday, RUNWAY Playa Vista hosts a free a 60-minute sunset flow with Sweat Yoga, held on the lawn. The session begins at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. More info here.
F*ck this Month – FA > F*ck this Month is a recurring comedy set that takes the crappiest stories of woe from audience members (all taken place in the previous calendar month) and spins them into improv gold. Shakespeare in the Park – FA > The second half of the Independent Shakespeare Co.’s summer theater festival in Griffith Park kicks this Wednesday, as the ISC brings performances of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus. Shows will run Wednesday to Saturday through August 31, all beginning at 7 p.m. Make sure to arrive early to grab a spot. Picnics encouraged. More info here.
Dance at the Museum -> The Museum of Latina American Art in Long Beach is hosting series of dance classes bringing art and movement come together, with an assist from the professional instructors at Cielo Dance Events. Sunset Concerts at the Skirball – FA > The Skirball Cultural Center’s annual Sunset Concert comes to a close this Thursday evening with Ghanaian born, LA-based artist, healer, and musician JOJO ABOT and funk group Say She She. Sizzling Summer Nights at The Autry -> Every Thursday in August, The Autry museum hosts some of L.A.’s best salsa and Latin fusion bands with free salsa lessons, access to the museum galleries and a separate children’s dance floor. Admission cost $22 per person. More info here.
Beach Movie Nights at Dockweiler – FA > LA County Beaches & Harbors has been hosting free summer movie nights at Dockweiler Youth Center every Friday evening, and the series continues this week with a screening of The Garfield Movie at 8 p.m. All seating is first-come, first-served. Summer of Salsa – M FA > LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ Summer of Salsa offers monthly dance parties one Friday per month through September. This Friday, Latin music ensemble Arsenio Rodriguez Project will take the stage, with Super DJ Robby spinning tunes to support. Prelude: Cinema Classical at Grand Performances – M FA > This Friday, Grand Performances hosts a night of music showcasing modern film score composers who took classical inspiration to create their scores. Levain Bakery Celebrates New Beverly Hills Opening + National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day (August 4 & 8) -> Levain Bakery opens its newest L.A. location in Beverly Hills on Friday, August 8, and they’re kicking things off with a sweet two-part celebration.
