Rewriting History with Fabiola Jean-Louis FA > Explore the intersection of Black aesthetics and historical reimagining this Friday at the Getty Center. Conceptual artist Fabiola Jean-Louis joins UCLA professor Tiffany Barber to discuss her striking series, Rewriting History. Jean-Louis is renowned for her intricate papier-mâché period gowns and self-portraits that subvert the traditional European gaze, placing Black women in positions of nobility and empowerment. This “Afro-Surrealist” conversation will delve into the reparative power of art and how contemporary creators can dismantle colonial narratives through visual storytelling. The talk is free, but your ticket is required for both the event and your entry to the Getty Center. Note that check-in begins 30 minutes before the 6:00 p.m. start time in the Museum Lecture Hall. Community Flow Yoga at the Wende MuseumFA > Start your weekend with a mindful reset this Friday morning in Culver City. The Wende Museum is hosting its new weekly yoga session at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center. Led by certified instructor Kate O’Neal, the class blends gentle warm-ups with strength-building vinyasa sequences and a restorative cool-down. It’s an accessible, all-levels practice designed to help you ground and recharge in a unique cultural setting. Like all public programs at the Wende, this session is free to the public. Dance Camera West -> This Thursday to Sunday, get ready for four days of immersive choreography and cinema as Dance Camera West (DCW) returns for its 2026 season. This festival showcases over 40 films, including world and West Coast premieres, at some of L.A.’s most iconic venues. From a retrospective of the legendary David Roussève to an interactive workshop with Australian filmmaker Karen Pearlman, the festival offers a deep dive into the world of “screen dance.” Get tickets and more info on the series here.

The 4th Annual Lunar Block PartyFA > North Hollywood is bringing a vibrant celebration of Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese cultures to the streets this Saturday, as Lankershim Boulevard transforms into a lively street market featuring curated AAPI artisans from MAUM, interactive arts and crafts, and traditional performing arts. It’s a perfect neighborhood stroll to welcome the new year while sampling diverse food truck offerings and catching live cultural performances under the sun. Co-produced by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, this community gathering is designed for all ages to experience the sights and sounds of the Lunar New Year. Admission is free. earth dwell/ers school: Sepulveda Basin Learning SessionFA > Connect with the local ecology this Saturday through an immersive, site-specific workshop at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve. This session of the earth dwell/ers school series uses performance lectures and “ecopoetic snacks” to help you re-evaluate your relationship with the flora, fauna, and geology of Los Angeles. Highlights include a deep dive into oak tree decomposition with Cassandra Marketos, a geologic sound session with Ruben Olguin, and a unique guide on how to learn community organizing strategies from birds by Jen De Los Reyes. Planting Seeds: Remembering the LA Fires at ArtCenter FA > Join the ArtCenter College of Design this Saturday for a morning of reflection and collective healing. Marking the one-year anniversary of the devastating Eaton and Palisades fires, the community will gather at the Hillside Campus to plant California poppies. This event is part of the Great Altadena Poppy Seed Project, a massive grassroots effort to sow 250 million seeds across fire-impacted areas. As the state flower, the poppy serves as a resilient symbol of renewal for the many students, faculty, and neighbors who lost homes and belongings in 2025. Free and open to the public. Drive-By Theatre Festival -> This Saturday to Monday, Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre hosts their 22nd annual Drive-By Theatre Festival, a brand new, fast-paced collection of mini-plays all written, produced, and performed in two days (or less). Shows take place nightly at 8:30 during the three-day run. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. More info here.

Festival of Abilities -> The Aquarium of the Pacific’s annual Festival of Abilities is a two-day celebration of the creative talents and abilities of people with disabilities this Saturday and Sunday. AoP will feature special programming which includes live performances and workshops by dancers, musicians, and artists who have learned adaptive skills to hone their craft. This festival will include sign language interpreters, and the Aquarium will have visitor guides in Braille and audio tours available for guests. All activities are included with general admission, cost $29.95 for kids 3-11 and $44.95 for adults. More info here.

Altadena + Leimert Park Art Walk: Threads of Unity FA TP > Celebrate the resilient spirit of two iconic Black communities this Sunday at the KAOS Network with a special edition of the Leimert Park Art Walk. Rooted in “creative recovery” and inspired by the regenerative legacy of George Washington Carver, the day features rhythmic drumming, grounding activities, and a powerful panel of Altadena leaders focused on community healing. Salinas de San Pedro Salt Marsh Open HouseFA >  This Sunday, head to Cabrillo Beach for a day exploring the wetlands. Managed and cared for by the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, this salt marsh hosts a diverse community of salt-tolerant plants, invertebrates, fish, and birds. Accompanied by CMA Educators and dedicated volunteers, you’ll have the opportunity to observe and explore the wonders of this unique habitat. Happy Birthday Marion! at Annenberg Beach HouseFA > Step back into the shimmer of Old Hollywood this Sunday to celebrate the legendary silent-film star Marion Davies. The Annenberg Community Beach House is throwing a free birthday bash filled with vintage charm at the site of Davies’ former sprawling oceanfront estate. You can learn 1920s dance steps, catch an Art Deco fashion show, and enjoy live music from Janet Klein and her Parlor Boys. It’s a rare chance to tour the original guest house and hear from biographer Lara Gabrielle about the star-studded parties that once defined this historic Santa Monica landmark. Pokemon NightFA > Calling all Gym Leaders and Genwunners! Benny Boy Brewing transforms into the “Lincoln Heights Region” for a nostalgia-packed Pokemon Night this Sunday. The evening features themed trivia with prizes, a curated marketplace with local vendors like Game Cafe, and a high-energy set from DJ WeeJay. Fuel up for your battles with some of the city’s most sought-after food from Zef BBQ, which will be popping up on-site all night. England Calling: British Cruise-In at the Petersen -> Celebrate “motoring from across the pond” this Sunday morning at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The museum’s rooftop will transform into a curated showcase of British car royalty, from vintage Jaguars and Triumphs to modern Aston Martins and Lotuses. Bridgetown Roti x Jikoni Brunch Collaboration (January 24 & 25)-> Bridgetown Roti in East Hollywood is hosting an African Caribbean brunch with Kiano Moju of Jikoni this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Expect AfriCali and Ackee Saltfish Rolex breakfast wraps, Doubles topped with Kenyan coconut chickpea curry or curry lamb with peas, plus coconut cardamom mandazi.
