Antigone: In the Language of Kings – > Outdoor Classical Theater is back at the Getty Villa beginning this Thursday with a production of The Latino Theater Company’s Antigone: In the Language of Kings. Adapted from Sophocles by Evelina Fernández and directed by José Luis Valenzuela, this powerful reimagining sets the tragedy in the pre-conquest world of Tenochtitlan, incorporating pre-Hispanic music, poetry, and Aztec mythology. Performed in English, Spanish, and Nahuatl with supertitles. Tickets range from $30 to $60, with optional prix fixe dining packages available. Postcode Ukraine: Diary of a Volunteer – FA TP > Westwood Contemporary, a pop-up gallery space presented by the Wende Museum in Westwood Village, debuts its exhibition Postcode Ukraine: Diary of a Volunteer beginning this Friday. Featuring the photography of Kyiv-based British artist Mark Neville, the installation offers a look at wartime life, civilian volunteers, and local families maintaining daily routines during ongoing conflict. Organized in collaboration with Postcode Ukraine, the showcase includes commentary from guest curators, with exhibition proceeds directly funding local humanitarian aid efforts in Ukraine. Let’s Groove: Salsa – M FA > This Thursday, Ovation Hollywood hosts a high-energy community salsa night held in the central outdoor courtyard. The evening begins with a 45-minute guided beginner salsa lesson led by a guest instructor, followed by two hours of live music from 10-piece salsa group Sangre Nueva featuring full brass, percussion, and vocals. Attendees can also enjoy custom hand-airbrushed fans and a complimentary souvenir photo booth. Admission is free with an advance RSVP requested, and no prior dance experience or partner is required. Summer of Salsa – M FA > This Friday, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ Summer of Salsa closes out the summer season with salsa band Conjunto Oye!. Dance MDR Salsa Night – FA > This Friday, LA County Beaches & Harbors presents Dance MDR | Salsa Night at Burton Chace Park, an open-air community dance event along the Marina del Rey waterfront. Instructor Leslie Ferreira leads beginner salsa lessons alongside music sets from DJ Charlie Antillon, accompanied by food from The Surfer Taco, a community art activity hosted by The Music Center, and a Venice Paparazzi photo booth. Mexican Independence Day celebration at Benny Boy – FA > This Friday, Benny Boy Brewing hosts its fourth annual Mexican Independence Day celebration, bringing live music, local vendors, and craft beer specials to Lincoln Heights. The late-night event features a performance by tribute band Maiden Mexico, food trucks, and a mechanical bull on site. Valet parking is available for guests. Flamenco! Convivencias at The Ford -> This Saturday, dancer and artistic director María Bermúdez presents Flamenco! Convivencias at The Ford, uniting acclaimed Spanish performers from Jerez de la Frontera with Southern California dancers and musicians. The evening will celebrate flamenco as a universal cross-cultural language, with performance featuring live musical accompaniment from flutist Juan Parrilla, violinist Bernardo Parrilla, vocalist Carmen Grilo, and percussionist Diego “El Negro” Álvarez alongside a ensemble of dancers. Directed by Paul Rogan, the ensemble crafts a fully improvised play inspired by audience suggestions, leaning into Regency-era manners, romance, and sharp comedy to create an entirely new story at each show. Moompetam American Indian Festival -> This Saturday and Sunday, the Aquarium of the Pacific hosts the 22nd annual Moompetam American Indian Festival, a weekend celebration honoring local Indigenous maritime cultures including the Tongva, Acjachemen, Chumash, Costanoan, Kumeyaay, and Luiseño peoples. Derived from the Tongva word for saltwater, Moompetam (“People of the Ocean”) features traditional craft demonstrations, storytelling, live music, dance, and an award ceremony held throughout the aquarium. Americana at the Park – M FA TP > McCabe’s Guitar Shop partners with Santa Monica Cultural Affairs and KCRW for the 2026 edition of Americana in the Park at Gandara Park, this Sunday. The family-friendly event features live performances by Grammy winner Albert Lee, Afro-Cuban outfit Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca, Abby Posner & the Big Fall, Jason Luckett, and a puppet show from the Bob Baker Marionette Theater. Cartoon Studio Square Day Block Party – FA > The Los Feliz Neighborhood Council, the Los Feliz Village Business Improvement District, Los Angeles City Council District 4, and D23 co-present another edition of the “Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio Square Day Block Party” at Kingswell & Vermont Avenues in Los Feliz this Sunday. Marking the second anniversary of the street square dedication where Walt and Roy Disney opened their first animation studio in 1923, the family-friendly block party features skateboarding demonstrations, photo opportunities, community booths, and interactive D23 exhibits. Black & White Cookie at Levain Bakery (September 11–14) -> Levain Bakery brings back its fan-favorite Black & White Chocolate Chip Cookie for four days only in celebration of National Black & White Cookie Day. The limited-edition cookie is a twist on the iconic New York black and white, built on Levain’s signature thick, chewy dark chocolate base and packed with white and milk chocolate chips. This year the celebration goes a step further with a limited-edition Black & White Cookie Milk Latte alongside a mini tote giveaway for the first 50 people in line. OSAWA $19 Lunch Specials (September) -> Osawa in Pasadena is running a rotating $19 lunch special throughout September. Wednesdays and Thursdays bring Kakiage Tempura Udon with Inari Sushi and shrimp, onion, and shiso tempura. Fridays and Saturdays feature Green Chili Ramen and a Spicy Tuna Cut Roll. Sundays close the week with Salmon Ikura Don. A lychee Osawa Lemonade of the month rounds out the meal.
Tomat’s Weekend Roast -> Chef Harry Posner’s British roots take center stage at Tomat with the launch of a weekend roast, available every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. For $36, the plate features Stemple Creek filet, garden vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and onion gravy. A considered nod to tradition, served in Westchester.
