Make Metro Part of Your Weekend

CAAM x Metro Bike Share Community Ride -> On Saturday, the California African American Museum and Metro Bike Share for a special community ride celebrating the opening of Paula Wilson: Toward the Sky’s Back Door. The afternoon begins with a free, 3-mile recreational group ride on a Metro Bike (or your own wheeled device). Then follow it up by checking out Wilson’s exhibition and the rest of the Museum after the ride (also free!). All ages welcome, but you’ll need to be ages 16+ to reserve a Metro bike. Creative Ways Mental Health Wellness FairM FA > This Saturday Gloria Molina Grand Park and Center Theatre Group are joining forces to host a mental health wellness fair that celebrates mental wellness through the arts. Expect engaging activities, cultural presentations, workshops, and special activities in anticipation of the upcoming Ahmanson Theatre production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, “A Strange Loop.” Attendees can also enjoy a wellness break featuring yoga, meditation, and sound healing. LACMA Latin SoundsFA > LACMA is bringing a series of Saturday evening, outdoor concerts at Dorothy Collins Brown Amphitheate (just north of the La Brea Tar Pits Museum) in celebration of the exhibition Painting in the River of Angels: Judy Baca and The Great Wall. For the first installment of Latin Sounds, catch the multi Grammy-award winning group, Ozomatli. Free to attend. Runs 5 to 7 p.m. More info here.

Critical Role Presents Candela Obscura Theatrical Show -> Cross-platform storytelling specialists Critical Role are bringing their fictional investigative horror series Candela Obscura to the United Theater this Saturday for a live, one-night-only performance. Critical Role founders Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray, plus Taliesin Jaffe (Helsing, The Legend of Vox Machina) will serve as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies.   • This weekend the Aquarium of the Pacific opens FROGS: Facing a Changing World, a new exhibit to that spotlights the colorful, strange, and rapidly changing world of frogs.
  • Memorial Day weekend in Hermosa Beach means one thing: Fiesta Hermosa! This weekend’s three-day festival (Saturday to Monday) features a marketplace with over 240 vendors, multiple stages of live music, a wine garden, food fair and a carnival. FA
  • The 2nd Annual Long Beach BBQ Festival hosted by Axiom Kitchen, NoahS’s Arc Foundation and LB Living will take place at ShoreLine Aquatic Park on Saturday.
  • Support local small business at Dreamers Market this Saturday at Ovation Hollywood. The “Super Bloom” themed market will take place in the Ovation Center Courtyard from noon to 5 p.m. FA
