This Is What a Big Rig Erupting in Flames on the 10 Freeway Looks Like [VIDEO]

January 13, 2015 by Brian Champlin

Earlier this morning the 10 Freeway was partially shut down through East Los Angeles after a big rig erupted in flames near the 710 connector. A video captured by a vehicle traveling on the opposite side of traffic (and later posted to YouTube) allegedly shows the fiery scene in the moments before emergency personnel arrived.

And yeah, it’s pretty gnarly (not graphic, but it is disturbing to see a car in flames like that).

The incident occurred around 11am this morning and a SigAlert was issued for all westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes of  the 10 north of Eastern Avenue.

It was not immediately known what caused the big rig to catch fire, whether it was involved in a collision, or what the current status of the driver is, per a report from KTLA.

[UPDATE: The blaze was reported about 11:11 a.m. after the big rig become overwhelmed with flames, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said. CHP did not indicate when the lanes would reopen, per a report from the L.A. Times]
