If you’re looking for a place to learn about and celebrate Jewish culture in Los Angeles, the Skirball Cultural Center is where it’s at. Nestled along the Sepulveda Pass at the foot of the Santa Monica mountains, the Skirball’s gorgeous campus is home to an archive of some 30,000 objects, varying from the ancient to the contemporary. Here you’ll find a 4,000 year chronicle of the history, culture, and values of the Jewish people, as well as the award-winning Noah’s Ark, an interactive space designed for families and children. Museum curators also tap into pop culture with temporary exhibitions like last year’s Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak (April 18 to September 1, 2024) as well as the soon-to-open Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity (May 1, 2025 to March 1, 2026), which dives into the six-decade career of the legendary Jewish American comic book artist creator who brought dozens of iconic characters to the page including Captain America, the Fantastic Four, and the Black Panther.

Now, as far as freebie hunters go, here’s what you need to know: General admission at The Skirball starts at $18 for adults or $13 for kids, which if you’re interested in what’s on view, is probably worth it on its own. However, keep in mind that every Thursday the museum offers free admission as well free parking during the day. If you need nighttime to-dos, stay apprised of the ongoing/recurring free programs offered here, highlighted by their annual Sunset Concerts series.
