And in Los Angeles this year there are tons of participating stores and even a few special events held in conjunction with the day of free comics to be held on Saturday, May 2nd.

First off, over in North Hollywood, Blastoff Comics and Knitting Factory Entertainment are teaming up to form the first ever Blastoff Comic Fest, taking place at the Federal Bar on Lankershim from 10am-4pm. The event will include a visit with comic creators from Marvel; Dark Horse; Image; IDW Publishing; DC and more, as they sign comics, giveaway free sketches and meet one-on-one with fans young and old. Admission to the festival is free. There will also be a beer garden, food stations, live DJ, costumed hero photo ops, and of course, plenty of free comics!

Also of note, Golden Apple Comics will be celebrate Free Comic Book Day starting at 10am with an appearance by creator/artist of Dead Future King, David Flores, a free mystery art print by Solestar creator Siike Donnelly, plus live music by DJ PDUB, 20% off everything in store and a $1.00 snack shop.

The organizers of Free Comic Day would also remind you to contact your local store to see what their Free Comic Book Day policy plans are in addition to what extra events are going to be taking place during their FCBD. Some comics shops give out 1-2 comics, while others give out more.

Also, definitely expect a line no matter where you choose to go. In that regard, try to get there as early as possible.

And, as always, enjoy!
