Here’s a Cheatsheet of Free Museum Days in L.A. For September 2022

Before we get to our usual rundown of museum freebies for the month to come, there are couple of quick call-outs I want to highlight.

First, Griffith Observatory recently expanded their open hours to four days a week, now Thursday to Sunday. No word on when they might be returning some of their previous free in-person programming (All Space Considered, sunset hikes, etc…), but hopefully soon. In any case, it’s just good to see increased access to one of my favorite places in Los Angeles.

Secondly, Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day is back on September 17 offering free admission at participating institutions across the country. Unfortunately, there are only three participants in L.A. County this year, and among those the California African American Museum is always free and the Flight Path Museum has apparently fully booked its freebie slots. That leaves The GRAMMY Museum, which I will say very rarely offers free admission, so maybe that’s worth a look.

As I remind you every month, there are at least two dozen museums in and around Los Angeles that offer ongoing free admission for all-ages, all the time (The Getty, The Getty Villa, The Broad, Hammer Museum, etc…). We’ve compiled a list of those here, so be sure to check that out if you need more ideas.

Now… on to the rundown!
