Juneteenth at the Hollywood Bowl -> This Friday, the Hollywood Bowl hosts a powerful Juneteenth Celebration honoring Black music, freedom, and artistic brilliance. Grammy-winning independent artist Chance the Rapper headlines the evening, performing hits from his landmark mixtape Coloring Book alongside introspective tracks from his recent album Star Line. Fellow Chicago artist Vic Mensa joins the lineup, which kicks off with an energetic opening set by Club Quarantine creator DJ D-Nice and a performance by the DC6 Singers Collective gospel choir. Juneteenth Freedom Ride – FA > Head to Leimert Park this Friday morning for the 3rd Annual Juneteenth Freedom Ride, inviting cyclists from across Southern California to celebrate liberation and safe city cycling. The group ride departs from Leimert Park Plaza and offers participants a choice of 9, 14, or 19-mile routes looping through central Los Angeles, highlighting historical African American cultural sites along the way. Cyclists on road bikes, cruisers, hybrids, and e-bikes are all welcome to join the rolling procession. The journey concludes back at the active Leimert Park Juneteenth festival, where riders can enjoy live music, local vendors, and food trucks. Santa Monica Juneteenth – FA > Beginning this Friday, Santa Monica launches its annual Juneteenth festivities with an inaugural Juneteenth Gathering at Christine Emerson Reed Park and the Miles Memorial Playhouse, focusing on community wellness through music, film, and healing arts. The debut evening features a sound immersion experience, a hands-on art workshop, and live music alongside DJ sets by Linafornia and Black Girls Love Vinyl. Inside the playhouse, guests can watch a special screening of Kahlil Joseph’s cinematic project BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, which presents a hypnotic tapestry of the Black experience across the diaspora. Salsa Night at Ivy Station – FA M > Ivy Station kicks off its summer Salsa Night this Friday. The outdoor evening begins with a free, beginner-friendly salsa lesson led by dance instructor Pepe Gonzalez, requiring no prior experience or dance partner. Following the lesson, attendees can hit the floor for an open dance session powered by live Latin rhythms from the Fermín Sifontes Fusion Salsa Band. Grand Performances – FA > Grand Performances free performance series continue with a pair of events this weekend. First on Friday, catch a showcase of 2026 COLA Artist Fellows Michelle Bitting (Literature), Brian Sonia-Wallace (Poetry), and Maylee Todd (Music). LACMA Art Parade & Block Party – M FA TP > On Saturday, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art hosts the massive, day-long LACMA Block Party to celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new David Geffen Galleries. The museum is closing Wilshire Boulevard from Curson Avenue to Fairfax Avenue to accommodate outdoor festivities, which include live art workshops, a public Art Parade showcasing mobile sculptures and costumes, a full lineup of DJ sets from artists like Flying Lotus and DJ Harvey. A special evening edition of Latin Sounds features salsa music from Roosevelt, while a street food night market curated by MAMA’S NIGHTMARKET offers diverse culinary options from vendors like Bridgetown Roti and Man Eating Plant. KCRW Summer Nights at CAAM – M FA > The California African American Museum kicks off the summer with a free, all-ages KCRW Summer Nights party to celebrate Juneteenth weekend. Attendees can hit the outdoor dance floor for live sets by KCRW DJ J.Rocc and guest DJ Monalisa, enjoy food truck eats, and grab a drink in the beer garden. The museum is keeping its galleries open for after-hours access to all current exhibitions, including Free and Queer: Black Californian Roots of Gay Liberation and The Sound of Gordon Parks. Dataland Opening – M > DATALAND, the world’s first Museum of AI Arts, officially opens its flagship location to the public this Saturday at The Grand LA. Founded by Refik Anadol and Efsun Erkılıç, the living museum debuts with its inaugural exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, an immersive showcase spanning five galleries, utilizing the studio’s open-access Large Nature Model trained on vast ecological archives from institutions like the Smithsonian and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Visitors experience real-time data and biofeedback transformed into dynamic sensory environments, blending ancestral Yawanawá teachings with generative computation, including an Infinity Room (our favorite room from the preview!) featuring the call of the extinct Kauaʻi ʻŌʻō bird. Garagiste Wine Festival -> Returning this Saturday, Garagiste Festival is Los Angeles’ only wine festival that exclusively features wines from commercial California ‘garagiste’ winemakers. Under the Sun: Solstice Soundscape with Film, Poetry, & Music – FA > Herald the summer solstice with an evening of reflection, poetry, and sound as The Fowler Museum at UCLA hosts Under the Sun. The program opens with a screening of Yáamay: An Ode to Blooming, a lyrical short film centering the lived experiences, memory, and enduring legacies of contemporary California Indigenous women. Following the film, co-directors Camaray Davalos and Casse Kíihut join poet and producer Avelaka Macarro for an onstage conversation. The celebration then moves into the outdoor Fowler Amphitheater for live musical performances by Genevra Munroa, Alexis Munroa, and Andrew Dyer, capping off with sunset poetry readings by Jessa Calderon and Solange Aguilar. Getty Summer Solstice Celebration – FA > The Getty hosts its first Summer Solstice Celebration this Sunday to mark the longest day of the year with live music, esoteric arts, and hands-on workshops. The afternoon features terrace jazz from The Don Brown Collective, individual tarot readings with Vivi Henriette, and unique drop-in craft activations including cyanotype sun printing with Meztli Projects, seed ball tossing with David Horvitz, and potato-carved tote bag stamping with GYOPO. A central highlight is the rare Solar Noon Celebration, which grants limited, first-come access to the Getty Library’s third floor to witness the sun’s light align precisely through the building’s architectural oculus, accompanied by a choral performance from Becky Stark and the Sound as Light Choir. Family-Style Galbi Glazed Ribeye Feast at Super Peach (June 21) ->Momofuku’s Super Peach at Westfield Century City is giving Father’s Day the feast it deserves. The centerpiece is a 32 oz. galbi-glazed dry-aged ribeye for two, served with banchan, corn cheese, summer squash, beef fat fried rice, and sesame garlic sauce. Round out the spread with Super Peach favorites like the Kimbap and a Savory Donut with coconut curry filling. Newer additions worth trying include Jjajangmyeon with sweet and sour pork and black bean noodles, and the Dak Galbi ssam set with chicken thighs, gochujang, and garlic.
Smorgasburg 10th Anniversary (June 21) -> Smorgasburg turns 10 at ROW DTLA this Sunday and the celebration calls for an all-star alumni reunion. Early favorites including Holy Basil, Shrimp Daddy, Bub & Grandma’s, Carnitas El Momo, Cheezus, and Evil Cooks return alongside the current lineup of future LA food all-stars. The collaborations are the highlight: Bridgetown Roti and Tacos 1986 team up on a goat taco, Bub and Grandma’s and RC Provisions pay homage to Ugly Drum with a pastrami sandwich and reuben, and legendary ramen chef Keizo Shimamoto himself returns to make the original Ramen Burger, one of the few concepts to make the trip west from New York when Smorgasburg first expanded to LA. Ten years in, the market is still introducing the city to its next favorite thing. Cheers to that!
Pez Coastal Kitchen -> Pasadena’s Pez Coastal Kitchen has a packed weekend ahead. Saturday brings back Vinoteca 5.0 ($75), a curated wine experience with seasonal bites and wholesale bottle pricing to take home. Then on Sunday, Father’s Day specials run all day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a seafood boil, smoked ribs, and classic Old Fashioneds on offer.
Seoul to Soul (June 19–20) -> Two culinary traditions rooted in resilience, heritage, and community collide this Juneteenth weekend at Yi Cha in Highland Park. Chef Debbie Lee teams up with Food Network chef and television personality Manouschka Guerrier for Seoul to Soul, a two-night à la carte collaboration that finds the unexpected connections between Korean and Haitian foodways. The menu delivers: Haitian Pork Griot served Bossam style, Korean Fried Chicken with Halmuni Garlic or Pimento Chile Sauce and Kimchee Slaw, Gochu Pepper Jack Cornbread with Bone Marrow Butter, and Avocado Lime and Coconut Tempura Ice Cream with Guava Rum Caramel. Reservations via OpenTable are strongly encouraged. The timing couldn’t be more fitting. Haiti’s World Cup match falls on Juneteenth and screens live at the restaurant, turning the whole evening into a celebration of food, culture, and sport. Yi Cha keeps the World Cup energy going all tournament long with watch parties, Chef Deb’s KFC, Sweet and Spicy Ribs, and a chimaek special of Gochu Buffalo Wings and beer.
