Events happening this June 30 – July 4 in Los Angeles include a Canada Day celebration at The Edmon, The Moth StorySLAM at Los Globos, Shakespeare in the Park at Griffith Park, Poolside Movie Nights at Desert 5 Spot, a Fireworks Spectacular at The Bowl, Anime Expo, and more.

Canada Day in L.A. at The EdmonFA > This Tuesday is Canada Day, the national holiday of our neighbors to the north which celebrates the union of three separate British colonies to form the Dominion of Canada (a key step toward’s the country’s independence). If you’re a local looking for a spot to celebrate, hop over to The Edmon on Melrose Ave in Larchmont where you’ll find live music, good vibes, and LOTS of Canadian pride. Free admission. 21+ only. Benson Movie Interruption -> What’s better than seeing a terrible/awesome movie with your friends and making fun of it while you watch it? How about live commentary from some of entertainment’s funniest movie lovers. This Tuesday at Dynasty Typewriter, Doug Benson hosts a “your choice” version of his Movie Interruption series with special guests including Jonah Ray Rodrigues and Vanessa Gonzalez. Attendees are invited to bring in a Blue Ray / DVD of their choice, and the audience will vote on what to watch before the show begins. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 the day-of. More info here.

The Moth StorySLAM -> On Tuesday, The Moth returns to Los Globos for a night of open-mic, competitive storytelling—this time, centered around the theme “Dirt.” Think buried secrets, messy moments, scandalous gossip, or even literal treasure. And if you’re feeling brave and want to spill the beans, anyone can take the stage to share a five-minute true story (no notes allowed). Tickets are $17.50, and the show kicks off at 7:30 p.m. More info here.

Shakespeare in the ParkFA TP > Continuing this week, the Independent Shakespeare Co. is once again bringing a summer of theatre to Griffith Park. From July 2 to July 27, catch Wednesday to Sunday performances of Love’s Labour’s Lost at ISC’s familiar space near the Old Zoo. Performances begin at at 7 p.m. Make sure to arrive early to grab a spot. Note for this week there will be no performance on July 4. More info here.

4th of July Spectacular at The Bowl -> This Wednesday to Friday, the Hollywood Bowl brings Earth Wind & Fire to the stage for a three-day event culminated nightly by a spectacular fireworks display over the iconic shell. More info here.

Summer Music at the Original Farmers MarketFA > Free live music on the plaza at the Original Farmers Market continues every Thursday throughout the summer, and for the month of July you catch a series of Altadena musicians who were impacted by this year’s wildfire catastrophe. This week, it’ll be Kenny Sara and the Sounds of New Orleans. Music runs 7 to 9 p.m. More info here.

Poolside Movie Nights -> Hollywood honky-tonk bar Desert 5 Spot has teamed up with Cinehaus for a series of Thursday evening, rooftop movie screenings that will run weekly through September 4. Expect craft cocktails, poolside vibes, and a a handpicked lineup of classic flicks, all backdropped by the Hollywood skyline. This week, catch a screening of Wet Hot American Summer. Tickets are $17. Event starts at 7:30 p.m. More info here.

Free Thursday Evenings at The BroadM FA > On Thursday, The Broad’s is offering free evening access to the new specially ticketed exhibition Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me (normally $15 admission). Slots must be RSVP’d in advance, and it also includes access to The Broad’s (always free) third floor galleries. Timed slots are limited, and run from 5 to 8 p.m. More info here. More info here.

Anime Expo M > This Thursday to Sunday, Anime Expo’s four-day event returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center to start July, offering anime lovers meet-and-greets with anime creators, special panels, Q&A’s, workshops, interactive experiences and so much more. Four-day passes cost $197.65, you can also grab a single day ticket where prices start at $92. More info here.

Jazz at LACMAFA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s weekly jazz series continues this Friday with another free concerts at Smidt Welcome Plaza. On tap for this week, an evening fusing experimental and contemporary jazz from Katalyst. PLUS: Remember that LACMA is free to visit for L.A. County Residents (with I.D.) on weekdays after 3 p.m. Concert starts at 6 p.m. More info here.

4th of July Fireworks in MDRFA > The annual 4th of July Fireworks Show returns to Marina del Rey this Friday. Celebrate the holiday with a 20-minute fireworks display over the water starting at 9 p.m., with viewing spots available at Burton Chace Park. Free to attend. More info here.

4th of July Fireworks Show at the Torrance Civic CenterFA > The City of Torrance will put on a fireworks show at the Torrance Civic Center this Friday with viewing locations at the West parking lot of the LA County Court House, and the L.A. Galaxy Sports Complex. You don’t have to buy a ticket, but attendance is limited and based on first-come, first-served. The pyrotechnics begin at 8:45 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. More info here.

Councilmember Bob Blumenfield’s July 4th ExtravaganzaFA > The Valley Cultural Foundation’s massive 4th of July event at Warner Ranch Park returns this Friday featuring a tribute to The Doors with a performance by Strange Days, plus a over dozen onsite food trucks and 20-minute fireworks display after sundown. The event listing mentions the park can accommodates up to 40,000 attendees, so expect a crowd! Free to attend. More info here.

Santa Monica Fourth of July ParadeFA > For the Independence Day early risers, head over to Main Street in Santa Monica for the annual Fourth of July Parade this Friday, which kicks off at 9:30 a.m. The route begins at Pico and Main Street, then heads south on Main before turning right onto Marine, ending at Barnard Way. A Freedom Fundraiser Bake Sale -> On Thursday, July 3 from 4–5 p.m., Huckleberry Bakery & Café in Santa Monica hosts a sweet summer bake sale to support CHIRLA and the ACLU SoCal—two vital organizations defending immigrant rights and civil liberties. They’re teaming up with some friends to offer an irresistible spread: pies, tarts, and kouign-amanns from Huckleberry, Milo & Olive, and Petitgrain Boulangerie; pints of ice cream from Sweet Rose Creamery; plus cookies, flan, babka, buns, jam, and more from favorites like Rustic Canyon, Birdie G’s, Bub & Grandma’s, Valerie Confections, Funke, Milla Chocolates, Pave Bakery, and Cecilia Leung. BBQ & Fireworks at Shade Hotel at The Marina -> Celebrate the Fourth of July seaside with a rooftop BBQ bash at Shade Hotel’s Sky Level in Redondo Beach. This family-friendly event features an elevated buffet with slow-roasted pulled pork, Angus burgers, grilled tri-tip sandwiches, classic sides, and salted Tajín-dusted watermelon. Non-alcoholic drinks are included, with cocktails available for purchase. Children can enjoy face painting and every can catch a perfect rooftop view of the South Bay fireworks show at 9 p.m. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 for adults and $35 for kids 10 and under. Gladstones Reopens on July 4 -> After months of renovation following the Palisades fires, iconic coastal eatery Gladstones reopens its doors on July 4. A local favorite for over 50 years, Gladstones has welcomed generations of Angelenos and visitors with ocean views and seafood staples like fish tacos, ceviche, and lobster rolls. To mark the comeback, the restaurant is offering 50% off food and drinks all month long to Malibu and Palisades residents, as well as first responders. More info here.
