A lively Sunset Concerts performance at the Skirball Cultural Center

Nothing says summer like live music backed by a gorgeous sunset, and there is no venue better suited to provide both than the Skirball Cultural Center. Now back for its 28th season, the 2025 edition of Sunset Concerts at the Skirball will feature a lineup of eight innovative world music artists performing over four consecutive Thursday evenings beginning July 17.

Guests can grab a drink or a bite, and enjoy live performances at the Skirball’s picturesque courtyard, backdropped by breezy hillsides of the Santa Monica Mountains. Plus, be sure to arrive early to explore the Skirball’s exhibitions after hours, including the incredible Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity, which dives deep into the six-decade career of legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby. And of course the best part? It’s 100% free admission!

As for the lineup, each event will feature co-headliners offering dynamic, joyful performances that will have you moving and grooving all night long. Here is what you can expect:

July 17: Rodrigo Amarante delivers his unique blend of rock, bossa nova, and folk, which have earned him both critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase. Then, Helado Negro invites us into a world that is dreamier and gentler than the one we inhabit. Traditional Latin rhythms meet modern electronic music, creating mesmerizing loops and boundless experimentation.

July 24: La Perla’s hypnotic, percussion-forward rhythms are the backdrop for their politically charged lyrics centered on feminism and Indigenous struggles. Plus, Meridian Brothers will blend traditional cumbia and vallenato with psychedelic rock, jazz, and tropical influences, all while weaving together fantasy and undeniable technical skills.

July 31: MULA is a forward-thinking and boundary pushing Dominican electro-Caribbean band known for their innovative fusion of traditional Caribbean rhythms with electronic music. They’ll be followed by Frente Cumbiero, who blends traditional cumbia rhythms with modern production techniques, creating a unique sound that bridges the past and present of Colombian music.

August 7: JOJO ABOT blends elements of Afrobeat, jazz, neo-soul, electronica, and reggae, creating a soundscape that is hypnotic and complex. Capping the evening, the Brooklyn-based Say She She is a retro-inspired funk band that draws influence from 1970s disco, soul, and pop music, as well as the powerful female-led groups of that era.

Remember that for each concert, doors open at 6 p.m., then two amazing bands perform at 7 and 8:15 p.m. Parking is $20, but rideshare or public transit is encourage. Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations required. Limited seating, but plenty of space for dancing!
