Make Metro Part of Your Weekend

KCRW Summer Nights at CAAMM FA > KCRW Summer Nights comes to the California African American Museum this Friday with an all-ages dance party with live sets from Guest DJ Damar Davis and KCRW DJ Novena Carmel. The event will feature food trucks, a beer garden, and crafts, plus attendees get after-hours access to all CAAM’s exhibitions, including solo exhibitions by Awol Erizku, Darol Olu Kae, Nellie Mae Rowe, and Tatyana Fazlalizadeh. Shakespeare By the SeaFA > Now in its 28th anniversary season, Shakespeare By the Sea continues this Friday and Saturday with performance of Julius Caesar at The Bandshell at Recreation Park in Long Beach All shows are free to attend, but donations are gladly accepted. Performances run at locations throughout L.A. and Orange County through July 26. More info here.

The Pixies and Kurt Vile at The PalladiumM > Alt-rock icons The Pixies are headlining pair of shows at The Hollywood Palladium this Friday and Saturday, with Kurt Vile and the Violators offering opening support for both nights. Night one will be a Bossanova and Trompe le Monde-inspired show (the Pixies’ third and fourth studio albums) while Saturday is slated to be classic Pixies. GA start at $75.50 plus fees. Summer Salsa Nights at Ivy StationM FA > This Friday, hop over to Ivy Station in Culver City for an evening of salsa. Dance instructor Pepe Gonzalez teaches an intro salsa lesson from 6:30 to 7 p.m., then guests can use what they’ve learned during a live set by Fermin Fusion Salsa from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Free. Outdoors. Steep After Dark Food & Jazz NightM > Chinatown tea house Steep brings the vibes on Friday, June 20 with a lively Jazz Jam Session during its signature Steep After Dark series. Expect spontaneous grooves, live improvisation, and plenty of tea-fueled energy—complete with a menu of flavorful bites, specialty teas, and craft tea cocktails. More info here.

Dance DTLAM FA > The 2025 premier of the Music Center’s Dance DTLA series is set to take place this Friday with a night of Bollywood. However, attendees should note there has been a last minute change of venue. Instead of the usual setting at Jerry Moss plaza, the event has been moved to Walt Disney Concert Hall, where the gathering will take over BP Hall and The Blue Ribbon Garden. Grand PerformancesM FA TP > After a postponement of Grand Performances 2025 kickoff this past Saturday, the long running series gets into gear for the summer with a pair of events this weekend. On Friday, catch an evening of poetry curated by Consuelo G. Flores, with live music provided by Maritri Garrett. Then on Saturday, enjoy a John Coltrane tribute event headlined by Isaiah Collier. Both events start at 6 p.m. and are free to attend. More info here.

SaMo Pride FestivalM FA > On Saturday, Santa Monica Pride Festival will throw a block party on Third Street Promenade with live music, themed snacks, games, swag, community booths and more. The event is free to attend and all ages are welcome. More info here.

Summer Exhibition Opening at VPAM FA > The Vincent Price Art Museum is hosting an opening reception this Saturday for a pair of new new exhibitions: “Before You Now: Capturing the Self in Portraiture” and “On the Side of Angels: Latina Lesbian Activism.” In addition to viewing the new exhibitions on display, guests can expect and DJ sets by dublab, a cash bar, and live drawing by Caricatures in Los Angeles. The event runs 4 to 6 p.m. and is free to attend. More info here.

Matinees on the Mountain -> Ready for a movie day with a view? Mount Wilson Observatory continues its Matinees series this Saturday with a program of Sci-Fi Silent Shorts presented in a cozy 256-seat auditorium. Come early to explore the observatory, picnic on the grounds or grab lunch at the Cosmic Cafe before the show. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under. More info here.

Junenteenth Celebrations Continue -> Juneteenth is technically today (Thursday), but holiday celebrations are extending into the weekend with a variety of events across Los Angeles. On Saturday you can check out a special zine workshop at CAAM on Saturday, a Juneteenth celebration at The Creative House in Inglewood featuring live music, or Culver City’s 2025 Juneteenth Celebration. Then on Sunday catch a Juneteenth Celebration and Concert in Manhattan Beach, or lace up your tennis shoes for a Juneteenth Tournament & Beginners’ Clinic in South L.A.

Garagiste Wine Festival -> This Saturday, Garagiste Festival returns to Los Angeles as the only wine festival that exclusively features wines from commercial California ‘garagiste’ winemakers. The wines are poured by the winemakers or owners themselves at the festival offering a rare opportunity to meet the sources behind the wine. Ticket prices range from $75-$139. More info here.

TOCApaloozaFA TP > This Saturday, the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation will be hosting their annual TOCApalooza at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. Expect plenty of family-friendly entertainment, including three stage sof live performances plus an art exhibition artist vendors, and a selection of food, beer and wine for purchase. LA Opera Costume Shop Sale M > Looking to make a dramatic addition to your wardrobe? For the first time in a decade, the LA Opera is clearing out their store of production costumes in a big sale taking place this Saturday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Venice Summer FestFA > Head to Venice Fest this Saturday for a free day of fun for all ages featuring local bands, yoga, wellness activities, artisan vendors, and more, all taking place from noon to 8 p.m. centered around 12257 Venice Boulevard. Latin Sounds at LACMAFA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s series of evening concerts continues at Hancock Park this Saturday with Son Habana, a quartet that will tap into the roots of traditional Cuban music for an energetic live performance. Free to attend. Runs 5 to 7 p.m. More info here.

Mission-at-Twilight M FA > On Sunday, ActiveSGV will host another open streets event with a five-mile route that bridges the cities of Alhambra, San Gabriel, and South Pasadena, sprinkled throughout with live music, food, and family activities. The wrinkle this time around is the timing, with the fest scheduled to run from 3 to 8 p.m. so you can ride/walk/skate straight into the sunset. Free to attend as always. More info here.

Jurassic Peek: A Burlesque Parody -> The Hollywood Jane Revue’s signature parody burlesque takes aim at Jurassic Park this Sunday, with a special performance at Crown City Dance in Pasadena. And though they’ve spared no expense in developing their performance, tickets for the show are just $23.18 all-in. Runs 7 to 9 p.m. Get more info here.

Loreto Summer Residency at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel -> Frogtown’s acclaimed seafood spot Loreto brings its bold Baja flavors to the westside with a seasonal pop-up at the Calabra terrace and rooftop lounge inside the Santa Monica Proper. From June 20 through September 1, guests can enjoy panoramic coastal views alongside Loreto’s signature crudos, ceviches, and layered tostadas, paired with warm-weather cocktails like a spicy pineapple mezcalita or a crisp Mexican martini. Pies for Justice Returns (June 19–22) -> Gather for Good’s signature citywide fundraiser Pies for Justice returns June 19–22, rallying LA and OC’s best chefs, bakers, and restaurants to bake for a cause. Expect sweet pies, savory pies, pizza pies, and hand pies—all crafted to raise funds for two vital organizations: Peace 4 Kids, which supports youth in foster care in South LA, and ACLU SoCal, which defends civil rights for all. Each participant offers something different—some will sell slices or whole pies, others will host raffles. However you slice it, it’s a delicious way to support equity and justice. More info here

Brunch is Back at Birdie G’s -> Birdie G’s in Santa Monica turns six, and they’re celebrating by bringing back their beloved brunch starting Saturday, June 21. Expect a live DJ, brunch cocktails flowing, and a greatest-hits menu featuring bagels with all the fixings, matzo ball soup, the Birdie Burger, Pickle Chick Cutlet, and the return of Hangtown Brei—scrambled matzo brei topped with grilled maple bacon, fried oysters, and hot sauce hollandaise, first served on their 2019 opening menu.
