Opening Celebration + KCRW Summer Nights at LA Plaza -> This Saturday, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes celebrates the opening of their new exhibition A Great Day in East L.A.: Celebrando the Eastside Sound with an afternoon of family activities, including artmaking, a percussion jam session, and curator led tours. The celebration carries into the evening as KCRW Summer Nights partners for a community concert featuring The Altons. The exhibition celebration begins at noon. Getty Villa Reopening -> After a six month long closure due to the Palisades Fire, The Getty Villa is officially reopening to the public this Friday. In conjunction with the reopening, the museum will debut a new exhibition titled The Kingdom of Pylos which features more than 230 works of Messenian art and artifacts. Admission is free, but timed reservations are required and the museum will be open on a temporary Friday to Monday schedule. More info here.
Dance DTLA – FA > Free evening dance parties return to The Music Center’s Jerry Moss Plaza every Friday night through August 16. At Dance DTLA, instructors will be on hand to teach guests easy-to-follow steps, allowing everyone to get into the groove right from the jump. Next up on the 2025 schedule is an evening of Afrobeats this week, led by instructor Kara Jenelle. Runs 7 to 11 p.m. Free to attend, as always. More info here.
PRIDE Weekend at Benny Boy Brewing -> Benny Boy Brewing throws down for PRIDE with three days of fun, flavor, and fierce competition. The celebration kicks off Friday with a high-energy dance party, continues Saturday with a Bikini Beach Day bash followed by Hi Hoe Karaoke, and culminates Sunday with the Chef Sandwich Showdown hosted by the Queer Food Foundation. Queer chefs—both rising stars and established names—go head-to-head with their boldest creations. Tickets for Sunday’s showdown are $25 and include sandwich samples and a voting ballot. Shakespeare By the Sea – FA > Now in its 28th anniversary season, Shakespeare By the Sea continues this Friday with a performance of As You Like It at Sepulveda Garden Center in Encino. Then on Saturday and Sunday at Rush Park in Rossmoor, catch performances of Julius Caesar and As You Like It. All shows start at 7 p.m. and are free to attend, but donations are gladly accepted. Performances run at locations throughout L.A. and Orange County through July 26. More info here.
Movie Night at Ivy Station – FA > Culver City’s Ivy Station is hosting a summer movie night on the lawn this Friday with a showing of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off beginning at 8:30 p.m. Blankets and low-back chairs are fine, but remember seating is first-come, first-served. Outdoor Movies at the Skirball -> Inspired by the exhibition Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity, this year’s Outdoor Movies at the Skirball seriess continues on Friday with a screening of Captain America: The First Avenger. Movie starts at 8:30 p.m., but you can arrive as early as 6 p.m. to scope out the exhibitions beforehand. Tickets start at $18. More info here.
One Night in the Valley – > This Friday, the Valley Relics Museum is hosting a comedy benefit for those those impacted of California wildfires. The One Night in the Valley standup benefit includes a sterling lineup of local faves, including like Dana Gould, Aparna Nancherla, and Chris Estrada. There will also be a complimentary open bar and treats from Leonardoughs, and net proceeds from the evening will go to the Eaton Canyon Fire Relief Fund through the Pasadena Community Foundation. 21+ only. LA Design Festival Block Party – FA > LA Design Festival (running June 26-29), catch a free block party celebration at ROW DTLA this Friday night. Programming includes tunes from The Don Brown Collective jazz band, special food plates and vendors, and the new ‘ANCESTRAL FUTURES: On Memory exhibition opening night at Friday Gallery. Good Boy & Friends 2025 -> Good Boy Wine’s annual celebration of natural wines returns this Saturday to the Arts District, anticipating more than 1,000 wine lovers to join for an evening of vino and vibes. Mid City Arts + Music Festival – FA > On Saturday, the 4th annual Mid City Arts + Music Festival brings a free, all-ages community celebration to the neighborhood adjacent to the intersection of Washington Blvd and West Blvd. Over 7,000 guests are expected to attend an event featuring multiple stages of live music and performance, plus a roller rink pop-up, beer garden, food trucks, vendors, a kid’s space, and more. East Side Print Fair – FA > The East Side Print Fair returns to Plaza de la Raza this Saturday for their Biennial Printmaking celebration, all centered around the theme of Joy as Resistance. EEEEEATSCON -> This Saturday and Sunday, The Infatuation’s signature food fest comes to the Santa Monica Barker Hangar with a bevy of top restaurants from L.A. and the East Coast under one roof, plus live music and plenty of panels. Concerts in the Dome – > This Sunday, Mount Wilson Observatory continues its 2025 season of concerts hosted inside the historic 100-inch telescope dome, where the acoustics are said to be some of the finest in the world. Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks – M FA TP > This Sunday, Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks brings a day of ancestral celebration and community healing to Leimert Park. Art Beyond the Glass -> The 13th Art Beyond the Glass is back at Catch One nightclub on Pico Blvd this Sunday.
