This month’s top picks include a Filipino rice bar, churro ice cream sandwiches, a coastal take on the Chile Relleno and a few options on how to celebrate National S’mores Day!

As always, hope this month’s rundown helps inspire to you try something new.

Bon appetit!

New To Los Angeles

1. Cassia

Brynt Ng’s Spice Table closed in Downtown almost two years ago to make way for a Metro station in Little Tokyo (and with little to no word about a relocation of the beloved restaurant). This month comes good news with the opening of Cassia Ng and his wife Kim’s new restaurant in partnership with Rustic Canyon’s Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan. Inspired by the Southeast Asian cuisine of Ng’s background and French style brassieres of the west this marriage between cuisine and partnerships is one of the best seen this year.

2. Maradentro

This seafood driven eatery in Studio City has quickly become one of the busiest restaurants on Venture Boulevards restaurant row. From the folks behind Mercado and Yxta Cocina, Maradentro’s menu is inspired heavily on the rich flavors of Mexican’s coastal cuisine. Their signature seafood dish the Chile Relleno de Siete Mares is a unique interpretation on a traditional dish, where the poblano chili (unstuffed) is submerged in a savory broth made daily from fresh shellfish juices, tomatoes, onions and chilies served with a hearty helping of fish, calamari, mussels and octopus accompanied by spongy ciabatta bread.
