LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes is L.A.’s most prominent institution highlighting the local/regional cultural contributions of Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos/Latinas. LA Plaza is located just steps away from the historical monument that marks the founding of Los Angeles, or as it was originally known–El Pueblo de la Reina de los Ángeles (The Town of the Queen of Angels). Here you will find rotating art exhibitions, educational programming, and live performance and events year-round. It’s also where you’ll find one of our favorite recurring summer event series: Summer of Salsa.
LA Plaza’s 2025 dance lineup kicks on on May 9 with a headlining performance by L.A.-based salsa collective Rumbankete. From there, the schedule continues with The Echo Park Project on June 13, Gabrielito y La Verdad on July 11, Arsenio Rodriguez Project on August 8, and Conjunto Oye on September 12. Each event also features a supporting set from DJ Super Robby. The first hour of the event is a casual group dance lesson (good for amateurs who need a quick intro to the steps) then the music begins in earnest. The best part, of course, is that it’s always free to attend and no RSVP is required. Just show up and boogie!
