Runyon Canyon to Reopen Next Week After 4-Month Closure

July 28, 2016 by Brian Champlin

Attention hikers, selfie-takers and dog owners!

Runyon Canyon Park, which has been closed for some 4 months during an improvement project, will officially reopen to the public this coming Tuesday, Aug. 2, per a spokeswoman for the city’s Recreation and Parks Department who confirmed the reopening with Curbed LA.

The park’s closure was the result of  project that replaced a 1-mile 6-inch pipe that runs throughout the park, with an aim to update the fire protection system as well as add other improvements such as reflective asphalt on certain portions of the trail along with runoff basins to capture rainwater for reuse.

Some folks might also remember there had been talk of adding a branded basketball court in partnership with a local streetwear brand, but that idea was ultimately scrapped after neighbors and park-users expressed outrage over the commercialization of their beloved Runyon.

In any case, the trail is soon to be open again, so be sure to take advantage of the views!
