We must be getting close to March because we’re about to be hit with an onslaught of outdoor movie possibilities for the rest of the year. First out of the gate: The 2018 schedule for Street Food Cinema has just dropped.

For those unfamiliar, Street Food Cinema is one of several large-scale outdoor movie screening and entertainment series that dominate the Los Angeles events scene during the summer months. The concept is pretty simple: pick large outdoor venues, bring in opening musical acts and food trucks, then show classic films on a giant screen for all to see.

Street Food Cinema is arguably the largest of these series (Eat|See|Hear is another one with a litany of screenings), with last year’s season opening screening of La La Land garnering an estimated 5,000 attendees. In recent years the series has even expanded to two other cities: San Diego and Phoenix. For this year’s L.A. version there are once again 50+ screenings to choose from.

The newly released schedule opens with Dazed and Confused at LA Historic State Park on April 28, and the rest of the year features some of my all-time favorite films including Raiders of the Lost Ark on May 26, The Sandlot on June 30, and Casablanca on August 25. The October portion of the schedule gets decidedly more spooky, with It, The Corpse Bride, Scream, and Edward Scissorhands all playing in the month leading up to Halloween.

On the downside, prices for Street Food Cinema are going up (again). Advance tickets are $19 for reserve seating and $14 for general admission. That’s up $1 each compared to last year. Also keep in mind if you decided to show up on a whim and buy at the door, each ticket is $3 more. If that price point is too much for you, consider other community-based free outdoor movie series such as the Silver Lake Picture Show.

For those that want to peruse the upcoming Street Food Cinema schedule, I have provided an overview below. To see more info on times, prices, and to purchase tickets, you can go here.
