Every week in Los Angeles there are tons of great things to do (even before the weekend gets started) that we think you ought to have on your radar. With that in mind, we put together a list every Monday morning to keep you in the know about what’s happening in the city you love (or maybe just like).

This week includes free Techweek Los Angeles, the conclusion of AFI Fest, a free day at LACMA, Veterans Day Celebrations throughout Los Angeles, the Downtown Art Walk, and plenty more to choose from.

Monday November 9th, 2015

1. Techweek Los Angeles Starts Today!

Techweek Los Angeles is back starting November 9 for a 7-day series of meet-ups, happy hours, meditation sessions, screenings, talks and other events that culminates at a main conference / expo in Santa Monica on Thursday/Friday, then concludes with a hackathon over the weekend.

2. Rebecca Minkoff’s Semi-Annual LA Sale

The Rebecca Minkoff semi-annual sale will take place in Hollywood for four days, this week get your hands on goodies up to 70% off. Expect shoes, clothes and of course her famous bags to all be on sale.

3. AFI Film Festival

AFI’s annual week-long celebration of international cinema features both modern masters and emerging filmmakers, takes place from November 5-12, 2015.

4. Free Meditation Classes At The Springs DTLA

Urban wellness oasis The Springs is offering free meditation class, Monday through Fridays at 1:00pm! Grab one of their fresh pressed juices after, it’s pretty much the best in town.

5. Discounts to The Little Mermaid at The El Capitan Theatre

A limited run of Disney’s Academy Award-winning film “The Little Mermaid” from November 5- 22, 2015. Before and after the movie, El Capitan guests will be greeted by Ariel, live on stage. 6. VidiotsFest 30: A 30th Anniversary Celebration

Vidiots will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary with a week-long festival of filmmaker panels, screenings, daily happy hours and an ‘80s party. For more information on events check out the Vidiots events calendar.

7. Poolside Cinema Screens La Dolce Vita 

The winter edition of Mr.C’s poolside cinema has arrived. Spend an evening beneath Mr.C’s poolside tent enjoying dinner, cocktails, popcorn and of course a classic film. Doors open at 6:00pm, movie starts promptly at 7:00pm. Email [email protected] to reserve your spot today.

8. Free Day At Los Angeles County Museum Of Art

LACMA offers free admission the second Tuesday of every month. In addition the museum is also free with a valid Los Angeles I.D. after 3:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays all November month long.

9. Gourmet Food Truck Night

Every Tuesday night the California Heritage Museum holds a Gourmet Truck Night at the museum showcasing a select of gourmet truck eateries.  All happening from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.

10. Record Club At El Prado

Lover of vinyl? The Origami Vinyl’s Record Club hosted by El Prado bar in Echo Park invites you to come in and enjoy some hand picked vinyl from local bar patrons. Sign up a week in advance to bring your records in to play for fellow barflies, and get a free drink in return.

11. LACMA Tuesday Matinee Film Series Screens  This Gun For Hire

LACMA will screen This Gun For Hire. This ongoing Tuesday Matinee film series cost $2 for members and $4 for non members.

12. Earth In Concert: Protecting The Planet Through Music

Ziggy Marley, Dwight Yoakam, Judith Hill and Us The Duo are set to perform at “Earth in Concert: Protecting the Planet Through Music” at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The event, which showcases artists and performers committed to raising awareness of the need for preserving Earth’s biodiversity, will benefit Global Wildlife Conservation and the GRAMMY Museum. Following the concert, the California Science Center, in partnership with the GRAMMY Museum and Global Wildlife Conservation, will debut Earth in Concert: Protecting the Planet Through Music. Featuring multimedia and interactive experiences. Artists featured in the exhibit will include Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley, Willie Nelson, Sting, and Pharrell Williams. Earth in Concert opens at the California Science Center on November 12, 2015.

13. Hopdoddy Burger Bar Celebrates Veterans Day

Hopdoddy Burger Bar appreciates those who have sacrificed for our country; and as a small gesture, each location will discount 50% off of all checks for active-duty service members and veterans. Discount includes all food and beverages (that means shakes, too!) with alcohol included.

14. Maison de Luxe At Greystone Mansion

Admirers of the mansion can get a chance to step inside the illusive estate for Maison de Luxe, a designer show house event presented by Luxe Interiors + Design, in conjunction with the City of Beverly Hills and the Friends of Greystone. 15. Free Chicken Sandwich To All Veterans At Major Daves!

Major Dave Caldwell, three-time Iraq and Afghanistan war Veteran and owner of Major Dave’s Chicken in Pasadena wants to thank all who have served and are serving our country by offering a free chicken sandwich OR combo meal to all Veterans this Veteran’s Day. As a former Marine himself, Major Dave will also be celebrating the United States Marine Corps birthday on November 10th with free birthday cake, and will donate 10% of profits on both the USMC’s birthday and Veteran’s Day to the Semper Fi Fund.

16. Kali Yoga At Bootleg Theatre

The Bootleg Theatre in Echo Park is offering one hour long yoga classes with Kali Yoga every Wednesday and Sunday for just $10 a class. Updates,schedules and an indie rock instrumental playlist for the classes can be found on their Facebook event page. Tickets for the class need to be purchased in advanced.

17. Lunchtime Yoga Retreat + Food Trucks

Get your sun salutations on in the middle of Downtown in Grand Park! The free yoga class starts at 12:15pm and runs to 1:00pm. After that, grab a bite from one of the many food trucks parked at Grand Park.

18. Free Veterans Day Celebration & BBQ

Free BBQ, free games, free parking and a free concert! Serenity Park Parrot Sanctuary will host a Veterans Day celebration to honor our men and women of service and showcase the amazing animal therapy available for veterans looking to heal post-war wounds (PTSD, addiction, survivors guilt, depression). Serenity Park Ambassador and recording artists Laura Bryna will unveil the expansion plans from her fundraising efforts and perform a collection of songs at the celebration. In addition you can meet some of the recused parrots, hear from healing veterans and speak with Laura on her ambitious efforts to make parrot therapy a national program.

19. The Downtown Art Walk

The Downtown Art Walk has been an L.A. cultural phenomenon bringing in art enthusiasts and locals together every second Thursday of each month. Art galleries, shops, bars and more open up for one big party celebrating art and DTLA for one fine night. For the month of November the Art Walk will be celebrating the tradition of Plein Air art, alongside Raw Materials Art Supply, by hosting a special exhibition featuring work from this month’s Los Angeles Plein Air Festival. Participating galleries for the November 12th Art Walk will include: Howard Griffin Gallery, Please Do Not Enter, Fathom Gallery, DAC Gallery, Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts Gallery, Carol Cirillo Stanley Studio Gallery, the Fine Arts Building, The Spring Arts Collective, and The Hive.

20. Citizen Science + Cocktails: Fall Series

Meet NHM scientists, at this fall lecture series, hear about their research on insects and reptiles throughout the LA region and examine how various species have responded to habitat changes over time. Find out how you can help in documenting insects and reptiles in our city from forests to backyards, schoolyards, and urban parks, NHM wants your observations and findings! Join Brian Brown and Greg Pauly to learn about two of NHM’s citizen science initiatives and how you can become involved. A cash bar will be available and complimentary light appetizers will be served. The event is free with a RSVP.

21. Free Movie Screening in California Plaza

The folks from Grand Performances continue their FREE fall movie series with a screening of 500 Days of Summer at California Plaza in DTLA.

22. Café Bustelo FREE Coffee Pop-Up

The Café Bustelo pop-up will return to give out free Cuban-style coffee and espresso November 12 – 16 at Graffiti Café in Hancock Park.

23. Playhouse District Block Party

Every Thursday night from 6:00pm to 11:00pm in the Playhouse District of Old Town Pasadena, join a crowd of locals gathering for live music and food trucks. Get more info on the official Facebook page for the event.

24. MOCA Free Night

Every Thursday evening from 5:00pm – 8:00pm admission is free to both the MOCA on Grand and The Geffen Contemporary.

25. The Groundlings: The Completely Different Late Show

The Completely Different Late Show is a hilarious improv show by the cast of the Groundlings’ Main Company. Audience shout suggestions throughout the night for improvisational scenes performed by some of the best in the business. 26. Free Night At The Skirball Cultural Center 

The Skirball Cultural Center is free to all every Thursday.

27. Game Night At Grand Central Market

Eat, drink and play every Thursday at Grand Central Market. Grab dinner and cocktails then top the night off with an assortment of games from Jenga to ping pong. The festivities end at 9pm for all the early risers out there!

28. Free Night At The Japanese American National Museum

The Japanese American National Museum has free admission from 5:00pm to 8:00pm this Thursday. Go see the Giant Robot Biennale 4 exhibit!

29. Holiday Ice Rink In Pershing Square

From November 12 – January 18 Angelenos can skate in the heart of DTLA. Happening at Pershing Square, each skate-session cost $9, and $4 for skate rental.

30. Discount Tickets to the Addams Family Musical

31. Los Angeles Comedy Festival

The Los Angeles Comedy Film Festival will host screenings of comedic film features and shorts from around the world. This year movies with Michael Pena, Danny Masterson, David Koechner, Eric Roberts and Catherine Tate will be screened. The festival will also host stand-up shows by Rosebud Baker, Gus Constantellis and Mike Merrill.

32. Pasadena Heritage Craftsman Weekend

Pasadena will spotlight the cities collection of Craftsman homes with a weekend of home tours and a Saturday night reception at the Greene and Greene Crow-Crocker House. Head over to the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday and shop the Contemporary Crafts Market.

33. Contemporary Crafts Market

Join 230 American Masters at the Pasadena Convention Center for three days of all things crafts. Discover American-Made products you won’t find anywhere else and meet the artisans. Everything on display will be for sale which makes this a great place for Holiday shopping. A limited number of free passes are available on the web site.

34. Live Taping Of NPR’s Bullseye With Jesse Thorn At The Masonic Lodge

“Bullseye with Jesse Thorn” is a weekly celebration of the best of arts and culture. Host Jesse Thorn brings in-depth interviews with revered and revolutionary minds in our culture. Bullseye will host a live taping at The Masonic Lodge with interviews from William H. Macy, Matt Walsh and Brian Huskey. In addition to the interviews a comedy set by Baron Vaughn and a musical performance by Chicano Batman are tossed into the mix. Tickets for the show are $20.

35. Harley Davidson Movie Night

The California Harley-Davidson Family is presenting a movie night featuring the motorcycle documentary, Why We Ride.

36. West Hollywood Design District Presents The 4th Annual DIEM: TALKS DESIGN

The fourth annual DIEM event is a one-day design symposium offering culturally resonating discussions, panels and keynotes from leaders in the fields of design, decorative arts, fashion, decorative arts, architecture and fine arts. Curated by Design Writer, Curator and Los Angeles Correspondent of Architectural Digest France, Mallery Roberts Morgan with Frances Anderton, Host of KCRW’s DnA: Design and Architecture. In addition all events scheduled are free to attend with a RSVP.

37. Frank Sinatra Centennial At The Wallis

The Wallis Celebrates the Frank Sinatra Centennial with film screenings and panel discussion featuring Nancy Sinatra, Tina Sinatra, AJ Lambert and Charles Pignone. Happening Friday 13 and Saturday, November 14.
