35 Awesome Things to do this New Year’s Weekend in L.A. [12-30-16 to 1-1-17]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every week end that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This weekend (Dec. 30 to Jan. 1) includes a New Year’s countdown in Grand Park, Prohibition NYE at Union Station, a Rocky Horror NYE, Cleopatra’s NYE Ball at The Egyptian, a ‘Noon Year’s Eve’ countdown for kids , and LOTS more to choose from.

Friday December 30th, 2016

1. Pasadena Architectural Legacy Tours will host walking tours in the Pasadena Hillcrest neighborhood and South Orange Grove Boulevard. Explore one of Pasadena’s most beautiful neighborhoods, you’ll also see many grand estate mansions, along with Craftsman homes.

4. Winter Fest, the O.C. winter wonderland, is back from Dec. 16 through Jan. 1. This year’s holiday festival features a festival of lights, snow summit, outdoor ice skating, ice tubing, snowfall and the man of the hour, Santa Claus. 6. Studio Ghibli’s most iconic film My Neighbor Totoro will screen at midnight at the Nuart Theatre this Friday.

9. Largest outdoor ice skating rink returns to Pershing Square for its 19th winter run. The 7,200 square-foot Holiday Ice Rink® Pershing Square will be open every day of the holiday season through Jan. 16.

11. The Satellite will host Remembering David Bowie a night of Bowie covers presented by Foxes Magazine. Tickets cost $10.

14. On Fridays Royce’s Arcade Warehouse hosts ‘Threeplay Fridays’ from 4 to 7 p.m. For $3 you get three hours of unlimited play of games such as Donkey Kong, Street Fighter 2, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga and many more.

15. The Pasadena Museum of California Art is currently having a special on admission through Goldstar where tickets are complementary with a $3 service fee (tickets usually cost $7 a person.) See current exhibits by Llyod Hamrol, Joan Perlman and a 90 painting show on California coast culture titled: In the Land of Sunshine. 18. N.Y.E.L.A. comes to Grand Park + The Music Center for one of the most popular events in the city. Enjoy music, dancing, large-scale art installations, and a New Year’s countdown for free! Families are welcome. FREE

19. New Year’s Eve Black and Gold Soiree at the Viceroy Santa Monica will offer free-flowing champagne, music, and delicious hors d’oeuvres from Cast Restaurant. Guests can dance the night away thanks to top KCRW DJs Raul Campos and Travis Holcombe spinning poolside.

20. Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena will be hosting a “Noon Year’s Eve” that includes sparkling cider, a noisemaker craft activity and a ballon drop at noon.

21. The Queen Mary is hosting a Hollywood-inspired party with entertainment from The Godfather, Dirty Dancing, Urban Cowboy, Goldfinger and more throughout the ship’s decks, ballrooms and salons. 26. Magicopolis’ New Year’s Eve Party in Santa Monica will feature the acclaimed “Escape Reality” magic show and a levitation, performance by Spill and Wrobel. In addition, the party includes a magic class, a swag bag, hats and noisemakers and a few other surprises, in addition to champagne to toast the new year.

27. The Cannibal will host an Old School Hip Hop House Party with an open bar from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on New Years Eve. Expect a whole animal feast with all the trimmings and a Champagne toast at midnight.
