39 Awesome Things To Do in L.A. This Weekend [6-26-15 to 6-28-15]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every weekend that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This weekend includes a a Great Horror Movie Night, the Mariachi USA Festival, beer festivals (multiple), Roaring Nights at the LA Zoo, Chinatown Summer Nights, a cocktail showcase and much, much more!

Friday June 26th, 2015

1. Great Horror Movie Night: The Strangers

The Great Horror Movie Night summer series will screen The Strangers in Elysian Park starting at 7:00pm on Friday. Tickets are $15 regularly, and if you buy a special package via Goldstar you get reserved preferred seating, 20% off all merchandise bought on site and VIP admission that lets you cut the line.

2. LA Zoo Roaring Nights

This summer visit the LA Zoo after hours and experience indie bands, DJs, full bars, and L.A.’s favorite food trucks. The July 26 event includes performances by Springtime Carnivores and DJ Johnny Hawkes.

3. Shakespeare in the Park 

This summer’s free slate of Shakespeare performances in Griffith Park opens on Thursday with a performance of Romeo & Juliet starting at 7:00pm. The show will run from Thursday-Sunday.

4. Calabasas Malibu Food & Wine Festival

Enjoy food, wine, beer and spirits in Malibu and Calabasas all while helping to raise money for local schools. The tasting event takes place Friday and Saturday. Tickets need to be purchased in advanced as there are no tickets sold at the door.

5. Junk Food Clothing Sample Sale 

Happening Friday through Saturday from 11:00am – 4:00pm, score the LA based retro T brand’s items for $5 to $10, this is a cash-only sample sale so stop by the ATM.

6. L.A. Beer Week: 

This is the last leg of L.A. Beer Week so make it count! Check out their calendar of events for special beer tastings, parties and even chef pairings.

7. Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 

Critics are calling Inside Out Pixar’s best film since Up (100% on Rotten Tomatoes so far, woot-woot). Catch a showing of the new release at El Capitan Theater that includes a live, pre-show dance performance and a screening of the short film Lava. 8. Taschen Seasonal Warehouse Sale

During the legendary publisher’s seasonal warehouse sale shoppers can score 50 to 75% off display and slightly damaged books. Happening Thursday through Sunday at all of Taschen’s Los Angeles stores.

9. Metro Art Presents: Miwa Matreyek

Metro Art Presents showcases an exciting array of free arts and cultural programs at the historic Union Station this week artist Miwa Matreyek will present two live multimedia performance works. There will be two showings, with each work presented back to back. Each showing is approximately 50 minutes.

10. Sound Of Music Sing A Long At The Hollywood Bowl 

The Hollywood Hills are alive with the Sound Of Music! It’s back, this summer tradition is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film. Pack a picnic and join thousands of fans at the Bowl for this fun and light hearted sing along concert.

11. Splits59 Sample Sale

Splits59 is a celeb favorite workout label fans include Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba. The two day sale runs Thursday 12:00pm – 6:00pm and Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm at their Marina Del Rey Headquarters. Prices start at just $10!

12. Free Outdoor Movie Screening on the Redondo Beach Boardwalk

Put together by The Redondo Pier Association this weekly summer film screening will screen Dolphin Tale 2 this week. The Redondo Beach Pier movie screenings will take place at 100 Fisherman’s Wharf Redondo Beach 90277.

13. Grand Performances

Every June Grand Performances begins a summer-long concert series that brings Angelenos together with an eclectic mix of musical performances at a unique setting in Downtown Los Angeles. This Friday catch The Family Crest & Run River North starting at 8:00pm at California Plaza.

14. Tease, If You Please Burlesque Show

This super sexy and seductive burlesque show aims to transport you back to the golden age of striptease and Gypsy Rose Lee. Staged at Bar Fedora inside downtown L.A.’s Au Lac, Tease, If You Please spotlights acts from some of the most creative dancers in the business. Miss Donna Hood, who performed alongside the one-and-only Dita Von Teese in Strip, Strip, Hooray!, produces this thoroughly modern, vintage-style show, hosted by stand-up comic and famed little person Selene Luna. 15. American Apparel Friday Summer Sale/Party

Starting this week American Apparel will be throwing in-store shopping parties every Friday through July. The first installment will takes place at the  Echo Park store location (2121 W. Sunset Blvd.) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Shoppers can save 30% off storewide, nosh on free bites and beverages, and enjoy live beats by a Viva Radio DJ. Next months party continues July 3rd in Santa Monica (2654 Main St.), July 10th in Los Feliz (4665 Hollywood Blvd.), and July 17th at the Downtown factory store (747 Warehouse St.).

16. Barnsdall Park’s Friday Night Wine Tasting

All summer long Barnsdall Art Park has a weekly fundraiser to benefit Barnsdall Art Park Foundation programs and projects. Perched on a hill with a gorgeous panoramic view of Hollywood, guests will enjoy fine wine and art in the gardens of Frank Lloyd Wright’s newly restored architectural gem, Hollyhock House. Silver Lake Wine will curate fine selections of boutique, small production, artisanal wines for park-goers as well as local gourmet cheese shop, Say Cheese.

17. Friday Night Jazz at LACMA

LACMA’s award winning Department of Music Program is a remarkable city resource, providing hundreds of free concerts and musical events every year for Angelenos to enjoy. This Friday their summer-long jazz series continues at the BP Grand Entrance.

18. Hollywood Fringe Festival

Local and international theater your thing? Checkout the Hollywood Fringe Festival happening now through June 28. The highly popular event hosts around 275 shows each year, expect one-person shows, new musicals, comedies and edgy dramas. Also be sure to check out the Pick of the Fringe (featuring some of the best of the festival) being showcased on Saturday night.

19. Apolis Blow Out Sale

My favorite global-minded men’s brand is having a giant sale! Happening Friday through Saturday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm, shoppers can score up to 85% off the cool menswear and home goods brand. We hear prices for tees are just $10, $20 for accessories, $30 for bags, $45 for jackets, and $60 for sweaters.

20. POW! WOW! Long Beach

What started as a week-long event in Hawaii has evolved into a global network of artists and organized events. It’s called POW! WOW! and it’s coming to Long Beach for an entire week full of painting sessions, musical performances, pop-up shops, discussions, and more. 21. The Music Center Host Bring Your Own Dance Moves

The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles is encouraging you to get your boogie on… for FREE! This Friday includes curated L.A. DJ sessions in collaboration with ArtDontSleep and Dublab, plus a late night bar menu and $5 parking (after 8:00pm).

22. The Halston Heritage Sample Sale

23. The 26th Annual Mariachi USA Festival

24. Eat|See|Hear Screens Annie Hall

Eat|See|Hear features live pre-show music plus a selection of L.A.’s best food trucks, all centered around screenings of iconic films. This weekend Woody Allen’s classic Annie Hall will be screened at Santa Monica High School. Goldstar is hooking people up with discount tickets for this weekends screening, grab them quick before they are sold out! Bring your pup! 25. Chinatown Summer Nights

KCRW’s signature FREE summer series returns to Chinatown and will feature live cooking demonstrations, cultural activities, the Downtown Flea Craft and Vintage market, live bands, food trucks, authentic Chinese restaurants, and KCRW DJs rockin’ tunes till midnight.

27. Have Your Kiddie Bowl Free All Summer at Pinz!

Pinz in Studio City is giving kids two free games every single day of the summer. All you need to do is rent bowling shoes and register your child ahead of time.

28. Basecamp Fitness Is Offering Free Weekend Park Workouts

Before the gyms opening in August Basecamp is hooking up complimentary workouts at Pan Pacific Park (7600 Beverly Boulevard) every weekend at 11:00am. The sessions will feature “Air Assault Bikes” as well as tons of other fitness equipment. Water and snacks will be provided and all attendees will receive a free workout T-shirt. 29. A Musical Road Trip Through America

Take a musical road trip through America, heck the whole family is invited along for the ride! The Skirball is throwing a ton of summer concerts at the Family Amphitheater inhopes to take you on a ramblin’ musical “road trip,” inspired by the current exhibition Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution.

30. The Euro Bierfest

Taste over 60 of Europe’s finest brews at the 2nd Annual Euro Bierfest at Alpine Village. Tickets are $45 and get you unlimited pours plus a souvenir glass. From 11:00am – 3:30pm.

31. NHM’s Nature Fest

This weekend the Natural History Museum presents a brand new, two-day Nature Festival where visitors can explore with NHM scientists, participate in citizen science projects, see a snake feeding demonstration, listen to live bands, hear poetry readings and much more. 32. Obey Sample Sale

The popular street wear company Obey is having a sample sale Saturday 7:00am – 7:00pm, and Sunday 7:00am – 5:00pm at their headquarters located in Irvine.

33. Claremont Village Craft Beer Walk

The Blues & Brews Beer Walk in Claremont will include over 40 craft beer and food sample vendors. Admission is $50 ($45 if you buy pre-sale) and includes 15 pour tasting tickets. From 4:00pm – 8:00pm.

34. Art Beyond the Glass IV

Art Beyond the Glass IV is taking over General Lee’s in Chinatown! This special community event features dozens of L.A.’s top bartenders (Sassafras Saloon, Big Bar, Honeycut and more) mixing cocktails and showcasing their artistry, from painting to photography, live music, DJs and more.

35. Bloody Mary Battle

The brunch cocktail de jour will get it’s own competition! The first ever Santa Monica Bloody Mary Battle will take place at Del Frisco’s Grille in Santa Monica. Bartenders from local restaurants, including The Lobster, Lago, Areal, Blue Plate Taco and Del Frisco’s Grille, will compete for the title of “Santa Monica’s Best Bloody.” Attendees will be able to purchase the five competing Bloodys for $20, and the drinks will also be voted on by a panel of esteemed judges and fan favorites. A portion of sales will go to the charity of the winning bartender’s choice.

36. The L.A. River Ride

On Saturday, June 28 join over 2,000 riders at the 15th annual L.A. River Ride and enjoy a great day of cycling fun, an Eco Expo, raffle, live music, and food.  Registrants can choose the level of ride they wish to complete, starting at 15 miles and working their way up to the century club (100 miles). All rides begin and end at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Proceeds benefit the work of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition.

37. Noah Purifoy: Junk Dada

LACMA is yet again relocating another massive piece of art and this time its not a giant rock. Works from artist Noah Purifoy’s Outdoor Sculpture Museum will be transported to LACMA for a special summer exhibition. Purifoy’s works are sculptures created mostly from discarded materials so the name is befitting. Purifoy is a CalArts graduate, WWII veteran and a Angeleno who spent a lot of time in his Joshua Tree studio. He was also one of the founders of the Watts Towers Arts Center.

38. Free Yoga at Manhattan Beach

A morning of free yoga on Sunday, June 28 brought to you by Free People Manhattan Beach. From 10:00am to 12:00pm at 11th Street Beach. Refreshments and styling sessions after the morning yoga. You can even get a free tote bag afterwards! Score!

39. Cosplay Burlesque
Have you been looking for burlesque in Alderaan places? Sultry Sweet Burlesque is offering a pre-Comic Con ‘tease’ with live burlesque and a 7 piece orchestra, featuring heroines from comics, films & other nerdy genres. I mean.. who hasn’t fantasized about Velma from Scooby Doo? Happening at the El Cid!
