Here’s Some Amazing Footage of Killer Whales ‘Singing’ Underwater Off Coast of Palos Verdes [VIDEO]

One of the joys of living so close to the ocean is our ability to connect with a side of nature that many people simply don’t have access to. This past week an extraordinary encounter with some killer whales exemplifies that privilege.

Eric Martin posted the below encounter to his YouTube channel, which says that the footage shows an orca (killer whale) identified as CA51, along with the rest of his family, as seen off the coast of Palos Verdes on Jan. 6, 2015.  Martin says that the CA51 group is the boat friendly orcas he has ever seen.

Watching the whales up close and hearing eerily beautiful sounds of their calls underwater is… just… awesome.

According to a report via ABC News from 2012, CA51 was first photographed by killer whale researcher Alisa Schulman-Janiger in 1991 in Monterey, Ca. In 1997, the group of orcas associated with CA51 relocated to Mexico, and since then, CA51 has head up the California coast several times and has been spotted dozens of times since 2008.

Freakin’ nature man….
