Every week in Los Angeles there are tons of great things to do (even before the weekend gets started) that we think you ought to have on your radar. With that in mind, we put together a list every Monday through Friday morning to keep you in the know about what’s happening in the city you love (or maybe just like).

This week, from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15, features 29 Rooms, Stories from the Border at Skirball, AFI Fest, The Bai Holiday Ice Rink, Winter Bazaar Holiday Night Market, LA Zoo Lights, Adult Swim Festival and MUCH more.

Monday November 11th, 2019

1. 60th Annual Forest Lawn Veterans Day Celebration will host family-friendly activities, a flyover, patriotic music, historic artifact displays, snacks by Dunkin’ Donuts, and more at the Hollywood Hills location. FREE

2. The American Cinematheque and American Legion Hollywood Post 43 will host a special Veterans Day screening of The Right Stuff in the newly refurbished theatre. Director Philip Kaufman will be in attendance. FYI this year marks the 100th anniversary of Veterans Day and the American Legion is rarely open to the public.

3. Instagram favorite 29Rooms returns with a new experience dubbed the “Expand Your Reality” tour. The third iteration will take place at the Beverly Venue by HD Buttercup from November 8-17.

4. Pink’s is celebrating their 80th year in business with eight straight evenings of 80-cent hot dogs starting Friday, Nov. 8. The discounted dogs will be sold at 8 p.m. nightly for 80 minutes, plus each night features a different celebrity guest and proceeds go to charity.

5. Get into the winter spirit when ICE at Santa Monica returns with a 8,000 square foot ice skating rink. Running November 1, 2019 through January 20, 2020.

6. Restaurant Fest is back at Eataly L.A. November 1-17. Located inside the gorgeous Century City Westfield Mall, the event extends to all three restaurants housed at the Eataly L.A. complex. Diners get to choose two-courses from a set prix-fixe menu priced at $18 or $28 plus $25 bottles of vino.

7. Geeks Who Drink stops by Hamburger Mary’s at 7:30 p.m. for a rowdy pub quiz night. No cover if required.

Tuesday November 12th, 2019

8. Take part in an acoustic sound healing experience with Roxie Sarhangi during the full moon at 1 Hotel in West Hollywood. The event unfolds on the Skyline Deck under the backdrop of a 108-foot by 110-foot suspended kinetic sculpture titled Dream Catcher by Janet Echelman, plus stunning views overlooking the city and beyond.

9. Stand-up comedian, actress, author, and creator Jenny Slates Little Weirds Tour stops by The Theatre at Ace Hotel this Tuesday.

10. The Skirball presents Stories from the Border with photographer Tom Kiefer and author Francisco Cantú who both worked on the US-Mexico border and had a strong motivation to share their stories. They will be joined by migrants’ rights advocate Dora Rodriguez who crossed the boarder herself in 1980. Together, they will reflect on their experiences and their efforts now to assist those trying to reach the United States.

11. Down some tacos, drink some brews and test your trivia skills this Tuesday during Tacos & Trivia night at Angel City Brewery in DTLA.

12. A colorful, winding installation called The Second Home Serpentine Pavilion is now open at the La Brea Tar Pits for the summer and its 100% free for the public to roam and explore. The pavilion is open daily and will run through November 24. FREE

Wednesday November 13th, 2019

13. The Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden presents Moonlight Forest, where crafted lanterns line the garden grounds, some depicting animals, shimmering exotic flowers, and figures from Chinese legends. Happening Wednesdays through Sunday from November 9 through January 12, 2020. Check for discounted tickets before making your purchase. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)

14. Take a free guided hike at Franklin Canyon during the full moon. November’s full moon is called the Frost Moon and the hikes are family friendly and approximately 2.5 miles No pets are allowed. FREE

15. Outdoor Voices, ROW DTLA, and Better Booch team up to host evening wellness gatherings for the month. This Wednesday head to ROW DTLA Building 1 Rooftop for a mat pilates work out led by Coreology followed by activations by The Things We Do & beverages from OLIPOP. RSVP is mandatory. FREE

16. The Natural History Museums latest exhibit dives into the scientific inspiration behind some of Hollywoods most terrifying creatures. “Natural History of Horror” runs through April 19, 2020 and includes rare movie props, film footage, activities and museum specimens.

17. This Wednesday KCRW Presents: Broken Record Live – Malcolm Gladwell & Flea in Conversation at the Palace Theatre. The pair will discuss Flea’s new memoir, Acid for the Children.

Thursday November 14th, 2019

18. The Bai Holiday Ice Rink returns to Pershing Square from Nov. 14, 2019 to Jan. 2, 2020 featuring a 7200 square foot outdoor ice-skating experience. A wide variety of events will take place throughout the duration of the rink.

19. The annual AFI FEST returns Nov. 14-21 with an eight-day run featuring tons of film screenings, world premieres, and panels.

20. There’s a Winter Bazaar Holiday Night Market at Yamashiro Hollywood featuring a craft fair and market to get your holiday shopping done, a dazzling light festival, live music, food, seasonal cocktails, Santa photos and much more. All ages are welcome. Free admission.

21. Photographers get your camera out because November 14 is the perfect time to snap a photo of Light Gate during sunset hour. The centennial public art piece created for the city of Manhattan Beach, is a large glass work with varied light effects and a keyhole view facing the ocean. On November 14 and January 27 of each year, the sunset will align within the keyhole giving viewers an epic art experience that’s totally photo-worthy. FREE

22. Head down to Scum and Villainy Cantina in Hollywood for Cosmic Karaoke night. There is no cover for this event.

23. Highways Performance Space & Gallery presents the inaugural Film Maudit 2.0 celebrating the work of outré filmmakers. The program will include six feature films and 40 shorts from around the globe making their Los Angeles premiere. The festival runs November 14-17.

24. Stop by The Queensberry for a cocktail class, learn the techniques used by the pros and then make your very own classic and contemporary cocktails, with a heavy emphasis on whiskeys.

Friday November 15th, 2019

25. One of L.A.’s most magical holiday traditions, L.A. Zoo Lights returns November 15, 2019 through January 5, 2020 with thousands upon thousands of LED lights illuminating the zoo. Check for discounted tickets before making your purchase. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)

26. Adult Swim Festival returns to the Banc of California Stadium in Downtown LA November 15-16 with a massive line-up of music, comedians and immersive fan experiences in true Adult Swim fashion. Musical acts include Helado Negro, Jamie XX, Lil Nas X. Activation highlights include a Rick and Morty “The Rickflector” machine that transports you into the show and the return of the popular Mechanical Hot Dog Ride.

27. The Get Together 2019 a Record Label Market & Music Fair taking place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA brings together independent record labels for a two days of live performances, a vinyl marketplace, DJs, exhibits, food and much more. Friday’s kickoff party begins at 6 p.m.

28. Decompress at Mystic Journey Crystals in Venice with a crystal sound bath that combines original compositions and performances with crystal singing bowls.

29. Get up close and personal with sharks at the Aquarium of the Pacific during Shark Lagoon Nights. Guests will have the opportunity to touch bamboo sharks and view large sharks in an after hours setting. FREE

30. Metro Art Los Angeles present an all-new film screening series featuring animated films at Union Station. This Friday with a screening of Waking Life. The event is free and open to the public. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. FREE

31. Constitution Happy Hour at AMMO at The Hammer continues this Friday with guided, topical conversations about the US Constitution and its role in our democracy.

32. Grand Central Market hosts Friday Night Flights this Friday starting at noon. The special includes a flight of drinks or bites from GCM vendors and a round trip ticket on the historic Angels Flight Railway right across the street for $15.

33. The Skirball presents Through A Different Lens: Stanley Kubrick Photography opening October 17. Before he became one of the most prolific directors of our time he was a 17-year old man who in 1945 sold his first photograph to the magazine Look. The public will see photos, many of them unpublished all exposing New York life through the eyes of Kubrick. The exhibit closes March 8, 2020.

Food Pick for the Week

TENDERFEST 2019 is a new festival celebrating the art of chicken tenders. Hosted by the app Off The Menu Club and John Terzian from The h.wood group the event takes place on Friday, November 15 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The festival will feature some of the city’s best culinary icons offering up their own interpretations. Chefs Wolfgang Puck, Timothy Hollingsworth and Nancy Silverton will battle it out for best tenders with judges Howlin’ Ray’s’ Johnny Zone, Chef Ludo Lefebvre and Los Angeles Times’ Jenn Harris making the tough call. Guests can also dine on unlimited tenders and beer from participants Raising Cane’s, Delilah, Hot Motha Clucker and Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken. Those with VIP tickets get access to Dave’s Hot Chicken.
