48 Awesome Things to do This Father’s Day Weekend in L.A. [6-17-16 to 6-19-16]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every week end that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This Father’s Day weekend (June 17 to June 19) includes an adults-only sleepover at Natural History Museum, KCRW Summer Nights, a Vegan Beer Festival, a Banh Mi Festival, a Beat Swap Meet and LOTS more to choose from.

Friday June 17th, 2016

1. Adults-Only All Nighters at Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is once again hosting adults-only slumber parties from 7 p.m. through 8 a.m. Kicking things off Friday the overnight experience includes science talks, tours, trivia games, a scavenger hunt, music, a midnight movie screening and a buffet with craft beer and wine and a breakfast buffet. Dinosaurs are said to make an appearance too!

2. Sleepless at The Music Center (Hip Hop edition!)

This Friday join in on the fun when the Walt Disney Concert Hall gets transformed overnight with a roller skating rink, live graffiti painting, dance crews, global Hip-Hop jams and more during a special hip-hop edition of  Sleepless: The Music Center. Tickets cost $30 and go on sale Friday June 17 at 10 a.m.

3. 42nd Street at The Pantages Theatre

42nd Street tells a story of an inexperienced chorus girl who finds herself stepping into huge success. The Tony award winning musical comedy from the 80’s is set during the Great Depression, with memorable numbers, such as “We’re in the Money,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” and “Lullaby of Broadway.” Get more information and discount tickets for this weeks show via Goldstar.

4. Shakespeare by the Sea

The summer season of Shakespeare By The Sea begins with a performance of Cymbeline at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro. Three performances this week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and many more all summer long.

5. KTOWN Night Market

The foodie and k-pop takeover of Koreatown returns for the weekend of June 17-18 with an impressive list of participating restaurants, entertainment options and other special vendors (and even an expected appearance by Mayor Garcetti)

6. Barnsdall Park’s Friday Night Wine Tasting

All summer long Barnsdall Art Park has a weekly wine tasting fundraiser to benefit the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation programs and projects. Perched on a hill with a gorgeous panoramic view of Hollywood, guests will enjoy fine wine bySilver Lake Wine and art in the gardens of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural gem, Hollyhock House.

7. Odd Nights At The Autry

From the man who brought you Dodger Stadium Flea, Downtown Flea and Melrose Flea launches his next epic adventure, Odd Nights At The Autry. Curator Phillip Dane brings another community hot spot to life with a variety of over 200 vendors from 20 gourmet food trucks, beer garden, custom handmade treasures and live local bands. This vivid culture is perfect for all ages and families to bring a blanket, host an evening picnic while enjoying the great outdoors. This event AND parking is free!

8. Free Grand Performances in DTLA

This Friday Grand Performances will host a free concert with Lebaniese band Mashrou’ Leila.

9. The Virus: An Immersive Escape Room Experience

A deadly virus has swept the earth and a team of scientists (played by you and other folks!) are in an underground laboratory trying to find a cure.  Sounds like your kind of mission?. 10. Compagnie Käfig

Compagnie Käfig’s performances defy the laws of physics. The all-male dance company is fantastically agile and their hip hop choreography almost looks unreal. Taking place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Los Angeles Music Center the show will run Friday through Sunday as part of the 4 Days of Hip Hop Dance series. 11. The Groundlings: The Completely Different Late Show

The Completely Different Late Show is a hilarious improv show by the cast of the Groundlings’ Main Company. Audience shout suggestions throughout the night for improvisational scenes performed by some of the best in the business. 12. The Unauthorized Musical Parody of The Big Lebowski

13. Herschel Supply & Native Shoes Sample Sale

The NTWRK Agency is hosting a Herschel Supply and Native Shoes sample sale on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the California Market center located at 110 E. 9th St. Los Angeles, CA 90079

14. Friday Night Jazz at LACMA

LACMA’s award winning Department of Music Program provides hundreds of free concerts and musical events every year for Angelenos to enjoy. This Friday their jazz series continues at the BP Grand Entrance.

15. Current/Elliott, Equipment, and Joie Sale

19. LA Vegan Beer and Food Festival 

The Vegan Beer and Food Festival heads back to the Rose Bowl for a massive day of craft beer, ciders, kombucha, cold brews, plus delicious bites from the 50+ vegan vendors that will be on hand.

20. L.A. Beer Week

The eighth annual L.A. Beer Week kicks off with a festival party at the L.A. Center Studios in DTLA with tastings from more than 80 brewers along with food truck fare, panel discussions and musical performances. Check out our L.A. Beer Week line up featuring beer centric events happening from June 18 through June 26!

21. Banh Mi & Egg Roll Festival at Santa Anita Park

22. KCRW Summer Nights

KCRW Summer Nights at Chinatown Central Plaza will party all night with DJs Raul Campos and Anthony Valdez happening 8 p.m. to midnight.

23. Puckerfest 2016

As part of LA Beer Week by Angel City Brewery, Lordsburg Taphouse & Grill is hosting Puckerfest 2016. The event will feature some of Angel City’s most sour beers including new, classic and limited release brews.

24. Saturdays Off the 405 with Moses Sumney at The Getty

Every summer The Getty presents Saturdays Off the 405 a free live music evening with some of the best up and coming bands in music. This weekend Moses Sumney a regular on KCRW will perform, tickets are not required.

25. Last Remaining Seats Screens Singin’ in the Rain

Now in its 30th season, The Los Angeles Conservancy’s classic film screening series Last Remaining Seats returns to DTLA this Saturday with a month-long set of events showcasing our most historic movie venues in town. This weekend a screening of 1952 classic Singin’ in the Rain at The Theatre at Ace Hotel built in 1927.

26. 41st Annual Big Irish Fair & Music Fest

Get a taste of Ireland without the travel at the 41st Annual Big Irish Fair & Music Fest a cultural event that celebrates Irish music, sports and dance at El Dorado Regional Park in Long Beach this weekend.

27. Street Food Cinema 

Street Food Cinema has three screenings this weekend: Do The Right Thing at Expo Park (discount tickets available via Goldstar), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade at Syd Kronenthal Park (discount tickets available via Goldstar) and The Sandlot at Verdugo Park.

28. The Container Yard Two Year Anniversary Party

30. 30th Annual Long Beach Bayou & Blues Festival

The 30th Annual Long Beach Bayou Festival brings the Big Easy to the LBC at Rainbow Lagoon Park this Father’s Day weekend (June 18-19). NOLA is known for its food and music and this event always brings out the best!

31. Sunstock Solar Festival

Watch the sun power the all-solar music festival featuring top indie and alternative acts like Cults, Wavves, and Yoya. The festival is produced in collaboration with Odd Nights at the Autry and is open to all ages. 32. 9th Annual Chili At The Beach

Enjoy homemade chili a cool ocean breeze and some sunshine at Huntington Beach’s Chili at The Beach. There will be live entertainment on two stages, a kids’ zone, chili and salsa tastings/contests plus a marketplace with products and activities meant for Father’s Day.

33. The 24th Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival at Paseo Colorado

The Pasadena Chalk Festival is considered world’s largest street painting festival but instead of actual paint it’s all about chalk with more than 600 SoCal chalk artists showing off their skills at Paseo Colorado for Father’s Day weekend, June 18-19.

47. Concerts on the Green Presents: Space Oddity with World’s #1 David Bowie Tribute Act

On Sunday Concerts on the Green will host “Space Oddity – The World’s #1 David Bowie Tribute Act” at Warner Ranch Park. The show features David Brighton, an acclaimed David Bowie impersonator who has performed side-by-side with David Bowie! The show is free but come early to grab a seat it’s gonna be a busy one!

48. Escape Reality Fathers Day Special at Magicopolis

Husband-and-wife duo Steve Spill and Bozena Wrobel perform a vaudeville-style magic show that’s fun for the whole family.
